He’s been in games journalism since 2020 and has undertaken a variety of roles in that time. These have included roles such as SEO Editor, Managing Editor at DualShockers, and Global Head of Gaming, and he's also been seen on the BBC. He was promoted to the Senior Reporter position in 2025 following a series of high-quality reports and exclusives for TheGamer. Since 2020, Sam has written over 3,000 articles and specializes in telling the stories of the people behind the games. He’s interviewed the biggest game directors, some of the industry’s top talents, told the stories of how indie games came to be, and spoken to players about what really makes them tick. He’s also interviewed some of the world’s biggest musical artists to find out how the medium has inspired their work, and TV and Film actors about their roles in video game adaptations. He even hosted a PAX panel in 2021 and made a documentary in 2024 surrounding the creation of a Disney game. Alongside this, Sam focuses on breaking news. He got the scoop on Perfect Dark’s cancellation, provided context on some AI drama, and revealed that Lady Dimitrescu’s actress would love to step back into the character’s giant shoes. These articles have been picked up by the biggest gaming sites, including IGN, GameSpot, and PC Gamer. He also loves to dive into the numbers behind the games. Sam’s journey in games journalism has taken him all over the world. He’s covered Gamescom in Germany, Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, and Tokyo Game Show in Japan, each on three occasions. He’s been learning Japanese since 2024 with the intention of identifying and translating Japanese-language news and bringing it to English-language audiences first, something he’s done countless times. Sam’s first review was 2020’s Battletoads reboot, and he’s since reviewed games in The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Pokemon franchises. While game sales clearly make big bucks, it's the potential for merchandise sales that really gets investors' tails wagging. Look at something like Pokemon, the highest-grossing media franchise ever: it's made $40 billion from its home video games, $10 billion from mobile games, and a staggering $119.3 billion from "retail sales". It makes sense that every company wants to get on the merchandise train, then, and Bethesda is no different. We've seen it release tons of merchandise for Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series, and it's starting early with the next Elder Scrolls game. Just two days after it was named, The Elder Scrolls 6 has received an expensive T-shirt and hoodie. Bethesda Game Studios On Tuesday, after a couple of months of speculation and a rather big hint from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, The Elder Scrolls 6 officially got its subtitle: Sentinel. Eight years after its original reveal, we got the most details we've ever received: the name and the game's setting, which happens to be Hammerfell. These limited details haven't stopped Bethesda and Microsoft from trying to capitalize on the hype and make a quick buck, though, as a pair of Sentinel-themed clothing items have just hit the Bethesda store. The first is a plain black T-shirt, emblazoned with The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel logo displayed above. That's available for the low, low price of $35. The T-shirt is accompanied on the website by a black hoodie, once again bearing the Sentinel logo. The hoodie costs $65. Behind Grand Theft Auto 6, The Elder Scrolls 6 is probably the most anticipated game yet to release—and the eight years since the first teaser was revealed probably haven't helped with that. It's undeniable that the game will be huge and do gangbusters, The Elder Scrolls fans have been starved (outside of 142 re-releases of Skyrim), but it sure does feel a little early to be releasing expensive merchandise. I guess a development cycle this long isn't cheap, though.
