Sign in to your ScreenRant account The Elder Scrolls 6 has just received a major release date update following the confirmation of its title and setting, but fans are going to have to wait a while longer before exploring the new reaches of Tamriel. As part of the 40th anniversary celebrations at Bethesda Game Studios, the official title for The Elder Scrolls 6 was revealed. The game will be officially called The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel, a reference to the capital of Hammerfell. There had already been leaks hinting at this title, but now it has been confirmed by the company making the anticipated game. In addition to the official reveal on Bethesda Game Studios’s behalf, another important piece of information was dropped. As highlighted by a new report by Push Square, journalist Jason Schreier, who tends to have ascertained information about new releases, commented on the potential release date of The Elder Scrolls 6. In a post on Bluesky, the writer made a post saying that “this game is still more than 2 years away,” while also mentioning that it was announced in 2018 alongside Starfield “to soften the blow of Fallout 76.” This means the game will likely arrive after 2028. The new update on the release date update for The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel isn’t that much of a surprise. Game director Todd Howard has already expressed his regret about announcing the game back in 2018, given the fact that the title was hardly in development back then and that the studio would spend years on end without providing any official updates. At the time, he even told players to “pretend we didn’t announce it.” In a comment by Schreier earlier this year, he said that the game was “two to three years away, at least.” Effectively, this means that nothing has changed for fans, though reports have indicated that Bethesda is now fully invested in the development of The Elder Scrolls 6, as the game is the “primary focus” at the studio. This is great news for players since it’s arguably the first major update the title has received since its announcement. We’re still in for a long wait, but it seems like we’ll get more official updates moving forward. In addition to the official title and the release date update, the setting of The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel has been confirmed, too. As was mentioned, Sentinel is the capital city of Hammerfell, the homeland of the Redguard. There were already tons of rumors that the RPG would be set there, but that has been confirmed. This confirmation comes not only as a teaser from its official title, but from Bethesda itself – The Elder Scrolls Online is celebrating the announcement by increasing XP gains in Alik’r Desert. Thinking realistically, it’s very likely that we’ll now spend some time without actually getting new updates from Bethesda regarding the status of the upcoming game. There is a chance that the studio will present a cinematic trailer with a potential release window, but it still feels like a far-fetched dream for now, considering how early in development the game seemingly is. Luckily, we’ll all have our hands full of games to play until the release of The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel – this month alone, we’re getting the Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake and the long-awaited GTA 6.
