"We apologize to players who have been kindly awaiting the release of this title and thank you for your patience and support," the team said. "During the network test, we saw active interest in the core concepts of the game, including combat, strategic depth, and player expression. To further enhance these aspects, we have decided to move the launch, allowing time for final adjustments to game rules and balancing." Many fans had already expected a delay considering the 2026 launch window was coming to a close without any updates, but FromSoftware has not provided a concrete release date as yet. Nintendo socials, including Germany, France, and Italy, reposted the announcement, adding, "To provide the best possible gaming experience, the release date for The Duskbloods is now scheduled for 2027. We thank you for your patience." What Is The Duskbloods? In our hands-on preview of the network test, TheGamer staff writer Kaitlyn Peterson described The Duskbloods as the "spiritual Bloodborne successor we hoped for and not at all the traditional PvPvE experience we feared," likening the mobility to Sekiro. FromSoftware hasn't shown much of the game yet, but the closed network test gave us a real insight into what The Duskbloods is all about. Billed as a PvPvE experience, Peterson says it's not quite as simple as it's made out to be. Players are thrown into Dusk Battles where they can form alliances and share Virtue, determining who survives the Culling to the next phase. Dusk Battles are four-phase fights where eight Bloodsworn compete to earn Virtue, with various maps to battle in. The one featured in the Network Test was Lowanro City, a gothic Victorian metropolis. Surviving the Culling is a matter of collecting more Virtue than other players — there is no minimum required. Virtue can be earned either by taking down bosses, known as Trespassers, or winning PvP bouts with other players. These bouts take place at Ritual Sites, so you don't need to constantly look over your shoulder when exploring. Think of it almost like fight clubs in the old Souls games. During each phase, you can even summon NPCs bound to you, called Kin, to help out in fights. And if you manage to survive to the final phase by testing your mettle on a mix of Trespassers and other players, you'll enter a free-for-all between the top three at the Moon Blood Bestowal. Hopefully, we'll get a chance to chew our teeth on The Duskbloods firsthand soon enough, but for now, the wait continues into 2027.
