While the DCU has avoided casting the Caped Crusader or showing him for more than a handful of seconds so far, excitement for the hero's proper impending debut is still very high. With Robert Pattinson's Batman having recently shown just how fun seeing a new live-action version of the costumed vigilante can be in the world of movies, there's much to be excited about when it comes to what the DCU timeline will do with its own version of Batman next, since The Batman series is set in an alternate universe. That said, it's also clear that the path forward for the DCU's Batman is a complex one. This is both in that the franchise needs to make its own Batman very distinct from Robert Pattinson's iteration - and will want to avoid having Batman movies release too near to any installments of The Batman - and in that creating a version of the Dark Knight who can fit into the interconnected world of the DCU is no easy feat. Mercifully, though, one reported delay in terms of this creation process has been addressed and debunked already. The DCU's Latest Batman Movie Update Confirms The Film's Worst Fate Is Being Avoided With concerns about the fate of and progress on The Brave & The Bold circling online - including reports that the DCU movie had been put on hold until the plans for a merger between Warner Bros. and Paramount are resolved - DC Universe co-CEO James Gunn took to social media to address the rumored Batman movie delays, explaining that "Nothing is on hold" as a result of the ongoing merger talks. This is, of course, promising first and foremost because it means The Brave & The Bold isn't in the middle of a development pause, and that any work with the movie's story, script, or plans in general would be able to continue forward without being impeded in the manner that the reports and rumors suggested they would be. That said, this comment is also promising because it speaks to a focus on getting the DCU timeline in motion in this early stage of the franchise, including getting Batman's first DCU movie onto the big screen, which seems as though it will ultimately benefit the franchise overall, and should prevent the wait for these kinds of major movie releases and huge DCU moments from taking too long. to come to fruition. The DCU's Batman Movie Update Aligns With The Teases We've Gotten For The Hero's Debut So Far Though The Brave & The Bold is by no means the DC Universe's next movie on the release slate, the setup for the wider franchise does mean the stage is being increasingly set for the DCU Dark Knight, teeing him up for a debut in the first leg of the DC Universe's run most logically. The DCU's first release, Creature Commandos season 1, came complete with two brief glimpses of Batman in different forms. This was firstly via a look at a dead Batman alongside a range of other DC heroes in Circe's vision of a bad possible future, and then via Doctor Phosphorus' flashback as to how his crime spree came to an end, as a younger Batman is quickly shown before dispatching Phosphorus and his crew. Following this, we've gotten a steady influx of references to Gotham in recent releases - be that via a physical sign to Gotham in Superman, or the appearance of usually Gotham-based characters like White Rabbit or Sheriff Kerry Kane in the likes of Peacemaker season 2 and Lanterns season 1. With Clayface's October 2026 release being arguably the proverbial cherry on the cake in terms of establishing the DCU in a way that helps set up Batman's impending arrival and solo movie, it's easy to see how the plans for the franchise are set up with the idea that the Dark Knight will appear sooner rather than later overall in mind, which is exciting to note given how big this will no doubt be for the world of superhero movies.
