WITH over an estimated three million people in the UK on fat jabs, resorting to weight loss drugs such as Mounjaro and Ozempic might seem like an easy option. Although it can make the process speedier, it’s easy to forget that there are still natural ways to overhaul your life and figure – by working out and keeping track of what you eat, and that’s exactly what plenty of celebrities have achieved. Just earlier this month, Love Island alumni Shaughna Phillips wowed her Instagram followers with an incredible transformation after welcoming her second child, daughter Sofia, last October. The 32-year-old, who in the past was body-shamed by cruel trolls, previously revealed that she had lost “just under 2 stone” since giving birth to her second tot. “I’m also not really sure what my end goal weight is because I really want to try and gain muscle and I don’t really know what that looks like on the scales. So I’m just gonna focus more on how my clothes fit and how I feel in myself and just check in with the scales every now and then,” she said at the time. The ITV star revealed she does three blaze HIIT classes a week and was going to add three running sessions a week to her workout routine because she’d signed up to do the 10K Race For Life. Sharing how she counts her calories, she explained: “I use an app called @calai.app to count my calories, but recently realised they set my calories way too low. I was eating 1200 calories a day. I’ve upped it now to 1800 calories a day so gonna see how I get on with that.” However, the mum-of-two is far from the only celebrity who’s stuck to a natural weight loss approach – plenty of other celebs have also swerved the fat jab trend. From a TV presenter’s jaw-dropping 13st weight loss to a singer’s glow-up, here we take a look at just some of the most inspiring makeovers that didn’t rely on the so-called “miracle” jabs. She said: “I turned 50 last year and it was a big turning point. My weight had been creeping up, I was eating too many junk foods and snacks like graze boards in the evening and I wanted to do something about it.” Sue, who was accused of using the jabs after going from size 12 to size 8, has cut out a number of foods and no longer consumes sugar, pasta, bread, snacks and junk. On top of a stricter diet, the mum-of-22 also burns calories at the gym, exercising “every day in the week and trying to be healthy”. “I think because so many people are taking [weight-loss medication] now, they automatically assume you are – but no I haven’t,” she told The Mirror. Sue continued to deny the speculation, and posted on her Instagram Stories to answer all the questions about what she’s been taking instead – the Vegavero Berberine tablets. The supplement, which comes in at £24.99 on Amazon and costs just 28p per tablet, is one of the highest concentration products on the market, as it contains 97% berberine. The natural compound aids weight loss by activating an enzyme called AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase), which boosts metabolism, enhances fat burning and regulates energy. Instead, The Sun previously revealed, her astonishing weight loss is actually the result of a gym routine and a £2.85 supermarket secret. The beloved TV presenter, 51, started “a strict diet” after she literally broke the scales in 2020. Additionally, Alison, who had a gastric band fitted after a chair broke underneath her while she was interviewing actor Matt Damon in 2007, also works out three to five times a week, combining strength training, boxing and Pilates rather than cardio, and when she is busy working she enjoys walking. Though the multi-millionaire has never been a fan of the scales, her personal trainer Joel Bouraima told PEOPLE in 2018 that Khloe – who, at the time, had just welcomed her daughter True — had shed 40lbs since she gave birth. Though the mother-of-two now knows the importance of maintaining a balanced diet, it took her years to let go of ineffective fad diets. Chatting to Health in 2021, Khloe got candid about her prior “unhealthy relationship” with food and how working out inspired her to adopt a lifestyle change. “When I was younger and was sad, I would eat – I was an emotional eater,” she said. “And then I hated the way I felt after that. I was almost punishing myself for binging or having a bag of chips.” The Khloud Protein Popcorn founder added that she had “tried every diet under the sun,” to little success. The turning point came, however, after she realized that she needed to make small shifts. “When I started working out, I decided to make some lifestyle changes,” Khloe said. “So I’d say, for example, this week I am just going to do one thing — I’m just going to cut out sugar. Then, maybe I’d try to do it for a month. After that, I’d try to incorporate another healthy change.” Since then, the TV personality has shed more than 2 stone, in part thanks to cutting out dairy and going to the gym at 5.30am. When it comes to food, Khloe likes to keep things simple – she tends to have eggs, fresh fruit and a cup of oatmeal for breakfast. For lunch, Khloe has a grilled chicken breast, a half portion of a simple starch, a portion of vegetables and a salad with simple dressing. Meanwhile, for dinner, her nutritionist told Women’s Health, she switches her protein to fish, which she has alongside more vegetables. It was then that the singer decided it was time to make a change. The Chicago-born star, 44, joined Weight Watchers and started walking, before she eventually lost a whopping 80 pounds – or more than 5 stone. After going from a size 16 to a size 6 by embracing portion control, the former Voice coach told Women’s World: “I used to deprive myself, thinking that was healthy. I didn’t eat pasta, fried food, red meat. I hadn’t had pizza in 10 years.” Now, the mum-of-one eats balanced meals all day and fits in small bursts of movement. “I just get up and walk. Do something. Something is better than nothing,” she shared. Now Ethan, who shares four kids with wife Brandy Lewis, is worlds away from his character, having shed an incredible 21 stone and dropping to nine per cent body fat along the way. After struggling with his weight when he was just five years old, where he would binge eat, the actor had to use weighing scales at a shopping centre because the scales in the doctor’s surgery didn’t go high enough. By the age of 10 he was put on a diet after weighing more than 14 stone. The star embarked on his fitness journey in 2002, a year after he met his now-wife. “I became, for the first time in my life, kind of interested in the future and having experiences with her,” he said. “Like spending a day walking around a museum or going on a trip or hiking that I just wasn’t physically able to do.” He ditched diets and focused on strength training and focused on healthy eating, rather than cutting out food groups. Ethan admitted that after spending 40 years refusing to take his shirt off in public, he proudly posed for Men’s Health in 2024. Jonah‘s first dramatic transformation came in 2011 after wrapping filming on Moneyball with Brad Pitt. But after piling it back on for his role in Wolf of Wall Street in 2013 and then gaining 40 pounds to play an arms dealer in War Dogs opposite Miles Teller, the 42-year-old actor shed the pounds a year later, with help from Jump Street co-star Channing Tatum and took up boxing. Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in 2016, Jonah quipped: “I gained weight for this movie War Dogs, and then I wanted to get in better shape, so I called Channing Tatum, and said, ‘Hey, if I ate less and go to a trainer, will I get in better shape?’ “And he said, ‘Yes, you dumb motherf****r, of course, you will, it’s the simplest thing in the entire world’.” After nearly three years out of the spotlight, the dad-of-two stepped back into public view with “Outcome,” a new Apple TV+ black comedy, earlier this year. During his latest outing, Jonah drew attention due to his massive weight loss journey, which saw him lose more than 14 stone, Yahoo! reported at the time. Everything you need to know about fat jabs Weight loss jabs are all the rage as studies and patient stories reveal they help people shed flab at almost unbelievable rates, as well as appearing to reduce the risk of serious diseases. Wegovy – a modified version of type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic – and Mounjaro are the leading weight loss injections used in the UK. Wegovy, real name semaglutide, has been used on the NHS for years while Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a newer and more powerful addition to the market. Mounjaro accounts for most private prescriptions for weight loss. How do they work? The jabs work by suppressing your appetite, making you eat less so your body burns fat for energy instead and you lose weight. They do this my mimicking a hormone called GLP-1, which signals to the brain when the stomach is full, so the drugs are officially called GLP-1 receptor agonists. They slow down digestion and increase insulin production, lowering blood sugar, which is why they were first developed to treat type 2 diabetes in which patients’ sugar levels are too high. Can I get them? NHS prescriptions of Wegovy is controlled through specialist weight loss clinics, while Mounjaro is available from GPs but only for the highest risk patients. For Wegovy, a patient will typically have to have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, classifying them as medically obese, and also have a weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure. They will be expected to have tried diet and exercise already. Mounjaro is available from NHS GPs for weight loss but only to a tiny group of patients, with the rollout starting with those with a BMI higher than 40 and with four weight-related health conditions. Private prescribers offer the jabs, most commonly Mounjaro, to anyone who is obese (BMI of 30+) or overweight (BMI 25-30) with a weight-related health risk. Private pharmacies have been rapped for handing them out too easily and video calls or face-to-face appointments are now mandatory to check a patient is being truthful about their size and health. Are there any risks? Yes – side effects are common but most are relatively mild. Around half of people taking the drug experience gut issues, including sickness, bloating, acid reflux, constipation and diarrhoea. Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and clinical consultant at patient.info, said: “One of the more uncommon side effects is severe acute pancreatitis, which is extremely painful and happens to one in 500 people.” Other uncommon side effects include altered taste, kidney problems, allergic reactions, gallbladder problems and hypoglycemia. Evidence has so far been inconclusive about whether the injections are damaging to patients’ mental health.
