Published: 17:12 EDT, 2 October 2026 | Updated: 17:44 EDT, 2 October 2026 The Bayeux Tapestry has drawn huge crowds since going on display in the UK after an absence of more than 900 years. But it is this spoof version that is set to be the star attraction at next week's Conservative Party conference, as it pokes fun at Labour's first two years in power. Its panels mock events including the Peter Mandelson scandal and Angela Rayner's resignation, as well as the party's failure to commit to defence spending. The exhibit is 88ft long, far smaller than the 11th-century Bayeux, which is 224ft and depicts events leading up to and including the Battle of Hastings.Tory leader Kemi Badenoch said of the spoof: 'I enjoy that sort of satire and a bit of history. I don't want people to think we take ourselves too seriously.'The original was created in Kent and taken to the French town of Bayeux in the late 11th century. It is currently on display at the British Museum, on loan from France. Mandelson ScandalSir Keir Starmer and his former chief of staff Morgan McSweeney blow a kiss goodbye to Peter Mandelson after appointing him as US Ambassador. On a visit to Washington after it was revealed Mandelson had been a friend of paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, Sir Keir said of the disgraced peer, 'Many people love him, others love to hate him, but to us he's just Peter'. Elsewhere, LBC's Nick Ferrari covers the Birmingham bin strikes.Small-Boats Crisis The former Prime Minister stands on the shore in Dover welcoming small-boat migrants who have crossed the Channel. The panel also depicts Mandelson being taken away in handcuffs by shire reeves or sheriffs, referencing his arrest by Scotland Yard on suspicion of misconduct in public office, which he is said to deny. Epstein is seen hiding behind a tree next to a crying Mr McSweeney, who was Mandelson's protege at one time.Brexit Battle and Defence Cash Andy Burnham's obsession with re-running EU debates shows him donning a beret and stitching a star into the European flag, watched by the Daily Mail's Senior Political Correspondent-at-Large, Christian Calgie. Above the Prime Minister, a Net Zero dragon can also be seen eating itself. The image also shows Kemi Badenoch manning a tank and taking aim at Mr Burnham and Chancellor John Healey as they struggle to honour commitments to properly fund defence spending. It is a symbol of the Conservative leader's determination to pay for defence by cutting welfare.Rayner ResignationThis panel pokes fun at a picture taken last summer of Angela Rayner vaping in an inflatable. She is paddling away from HMRC, which led an investigation into unpaid stamp duty on her Brighton flat, triggering her resignation as housing secretary and deputy prime minister.
