Speaking at the ‘Doctor vs Internet Education’ session on Day 1 of the India Today Health Wealth Conclave 2026, Dr Anshuman Kaushal discussed the growing challenge of health misinformation online and the need for greater accountability in digital health content. Dr Kaushal says his anger is directed not at patients but at people who exploit their fears and profit from medical misinformation. “People's first consultation happens on Instagram or Google,” he said, explaining how algorithms can push misleading health claims to people searching for symptoms. He believes the expanding health content industry needs greater accountability, with evidence-based information and no hidden agendas. Kaushal welcomes patients who research their conditions online. “It's more of a partnership,” he said of the changing doctor-patient relationship, adding that younger patients increasingly expect transparency and credible answers. On ChatGPT and AI health tools, he said these can help patients summarise medical histories and test results, but cannot replace clinical judgement. “The power of judgement is only with doctors,” he said. Kaushal also writes his own social media scripts and believes doctors must address emotional concerns alongside physical illness. “There should be a scientific temperament in society. People should examine.”
