This, however, hasn't stopped the company from still giving viewers some movies that are a boat load of fun. Now, fun doesn't always have to mean great or make a film a masterpiece. A fun film is simply one that is genuinely entertaining and keeps viewers engaged with good action, humor, and visuals. While a lot of DC Comics movie fans appreciate the darker tone—with the "Snyderverse" having a passionate cult following—the company isn't restricted to only serious storytelling. In the comic books, they have plenty of goofy, fun characters that have such entertaining adventures that lead to amazing stories on film, too. But which are the best—the most fun? 8 'Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn' (2020) Image via Warner Bros Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is the definition of a movie that's not incredible, but still a ton of fun to watch. Featuring the one and only Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) as she decides to break up with the Joker (Jared Leto) and go off on her own, eventually forming the Birds of Prey. This movie is full of color, great cinematography, awesome performances—Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor being stand-outs, and fun action. Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is such a fun ride to watch with friends on a Saturday night. It does not get the credit it deserves—mostly due to some incredibly unfair judgements from certain groups of people—and most definitely needs more love. 7 'Justice League: War' (2014) Image via Warner Bros. Animation The DC Animated Movie Universe is a very memorable one for DC fans, given how many great stories and movies they got out of it. One of the best is, easily, Justice League: War, which depicts the iconic team coming together for the first time. This adaptation of the story absolutely steps on the way it was handled in Justice League, the live-action film, and deserves its roses for that. The action sequences in Justice League: War are fast-paced and hard-hitting, which leads to them being an awesome visual spectacle. Not to mention, the character dynamics within it are so much fun, especially when it comes to characters like Green Lantern (Justin Kirk) and Batman (Jason O'Mara) interacting. 6 'Blue Beetle' (2023) Image via Warner Bros. DC fans are pretty happy right now, now that it's been confirmed that Xolo Maridueña is going to be reprising his role as Blue Beetle in Man of Tomorrow, and for good reason. Despite it getting screwed at the box office, Blue Beetle is an abundantly fun movie that explores growing up after college, the importance of family, and staying true to oneself. Blue Beetle does not get the credit and love that it rightfully deserves. This is a super heartfelt movie that clearly had a ton of love put into it by director Ángel Manuel Soto. This is also the perfect film to sit down and watch before Blue Beetle returns in the Superman sort of sequel. James Gunn's Superman is the official theatrical start of the new DCU, and fans responded quite well to it. People have been waiting for a movie like this for the Man of Steel for quite some time. This film is filled with hope, heart, and a feeling of lightheartedness that can only be brought forth by a character like this. Superman is unabashedly a comic book film, and is not afraid to get goofy, fun, and out of this world (literally). For fans of the source material, this movie is perfect. Pictures There are some pretty dark and dreary films in the DC Extended Universe—the Snyderverse—but they did manage to get a fun film or two in their collection. One of the most notable is Shazam!, directed by David F. Sandberg—known for Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation of all things. This coming-of-age superhero tale is actually very compelling and hits all the right marks. What makes Shazam! so charming is the main character, Billy Batson (Asher Angel), and the kind of attitude he has towards superhero-ing. He's an irresponsible kid who loves the powers and upgrades he gets in the new set of powers, with a montage of him and his new foster brother, Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer), goofing off and doing ridiculous things with their powers. He wants the powers, but not the responsibility—at first—and that gives this movie a childish fun in the best way. 2 'The Suicide Squad' (2021) Image via Warner Bros. If there's one thing that James Gunn does extremely well, it's having fun with his filmmaking, and The Suicide Squad is living proof of that. Many consider this DC's R-rated Guardians of the Galaxy, and they have every reason to think so. The Suicide Squad feels like what Gunn would do if he got to make his Marvel franchise with an R rating, and it's so much fun for that. With amazing actors at the helm of these characters, like John Cena, Idris Elba, and, of course, the ever-lovable Margot Robbie, the main characters jump off the screen and truly come to life. The Suicide Squad is not for kids, but it's most certainly for anyone who has a fun, almost kid-like sense of humor under their skull. Not to forget, with characters like Peacemaker—and even King Shark (Sylvester Stallone)—at play, they get to have some crazy cool action scenes, too. It should lastly be noted that this is one of the most colorful and eye-widening DC Comics movies of all time. 1 'The LEGO Batman Movie' (2017) Image via Warner Bros. The fact that a movie titled The LEGO Batman Movie is one of the greatest DC Comics movies of all time—with the fact that Batman as a character has become quite dark and gritty over the decades—is wild, but wholly earned. Just like how Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a wholehearted tribute to Spider-Man, The LEGO Batman Movie is a love letter to Batman as a cultural icon. This movie—directed by Chris McKay and starring Will Arnett—is genuinely hilarious. Written to be more of a comedy film in the first place, The LEGO Batman Movie is, without a shadow of a doubt, the funniest DC Comics movie ever made, while also being one of the best characterizations of Batman ever. This is such a fun experience to sit through and has all the love, soul, and charm of a typical LEGO film.
