See more Daily Mail on Google - save us as a Preferred Source Published: 11:43 EDT, 19 September 2026 | Updated: 11:47 EDT, 19 September 2026 Nicola Sturgeon has been accused of ‘selling her soul’ as her role in a new reality TV show sees her passionately defend the ‘security of the United Kingdom.’The former SNP leader plays the role of deputy prime minister of a UK Government led by former Tory minister Michael Gove as part of Sky One reality show The Wargame.Despite having spent decades agitating for Scotland to be ripped out of the Union, her TV role sees the former First Minister fully ensconced in the political set-up she has long opposed.Sources have told the Mail on Sunday that during the making of the show - a scene was filmed in which Ms Sturgeon took to a podium - flanked by two Union flags – to state that the first responsibility she and her mock-Cabinet colleagues had was the security of the United Kingdom.The first episode of the four-part show is due to air on Monday, September 21.News of the scene and the language used has been seized upon by Ms Sturgeon’s former political rivals.Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay said: ‘Nicola Sturgeon presumably thought that she’d have landed a prestigious job on the world stage following her exit from Scottish politics but is instead selling her soul for a strange role in a TV drama.’He added: ‘The only plus point from her telly role as a UK minister surrounded by Union flags is that it will surely cause even more nationalists to question why they ever fell for her mother-of-the-nation schtick in the first place.’ Nicola Sturgeon strikes a solemn pose during a scene from new show The WargameThe Wargame is built around a simulation where real-world political figures and military experts roleplay how the British government would respond to a sudden Russian attack on UK soil.Other public figures taking part include Penny Mordaunt, Sayeeda Warsi, Harriet Harman, Jim Murphy, Ayesha Hazarika, General Sir Richard Barrons, Kim Darroch, Christopher Steele, Lord George Robertson and Anthony Scaramucci.The mock UK cabinet will be opposed by a team of Russia experts, led by British writer Keir Giles.A trailer for the show contains a clip in which Ms Sturgeon can be seen in the same podium set up our sources have described.One source close to the show said: ‘Those involved in making the show thought it was hilarious that Nicola Sturgeon was standing there having to defend the Union. Oh the irony.‘Will the re-invented Nicola Sturgeon do anything for a decent pay day?’Critics have also said it is ironic to see Ms Sturgeon discuss the defence of the UK in the show, given she spent years arguing for the removal of the Trident nuclear deterrent from the Royal Navy base at Faslane, near Helensburgh.The screening of the show comes just three months after Ms Sturgeon’s estranged husband Peter Murrell was jailed for five years and three months for embezzling more than £400,000 from the SNP.He used the funds to buy a host of items, including a now notorious £124,000 motorhome that ended up being parked outside the home of his parents in Dunfermline, Fife.Images released by prosecutors showed the 24ft-long campervan clearly visible next to the smart bungalow - despite Ms Sturgeon’s claim in a BBC interview that she had no ‘conscious memory’ of having seen it.Ms Sturgeon, who left her position as an MSP in May, has denied any knowledge of her estranged husband’s crimes and said she was ‘deceived, betrayed and lied to’ by him.An inquiry into the fallout from the scandal has been launched by Westminster after Holyrood refused to act.MPs on the Scottish Affairs Committee are keen to ensure that a range of current and former SNP figures answer questions about whether public money was involved in Murrell’s crimes and whether the dual role of the Lord Advocate should be broken up.It follows concerns about the former Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain, who is both the head of the prosecution service and the Scottish Government’s top legal adviser, tipping off First Minister John Swinney about key details of the court hearing for Murrell.The current and former First Ministers are said to be top of a list of people that MPs want to hear from, as well as Ms Bain and former SNP treasurers Colin Beattie and Douglas Chapman.They are also open to looking into whether they can invite Murrell himself to provide evidence.Nicola Sturgeon has been approached for comment.
