TGNPDCL to encourage rooftop solar system installation, provide information on application process

File | Photo Credit: BY ARRANGEMENT The Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGNPDCL) is gearing up to conduct ‘Seva Sethu’ programmes at all its division headquarters from Thursday (October 1, 2026) to Saturday to create awareness among consumers about the PM Surya Ghar–Muft Bijli Yojana and encourage the installation of rooftop solar systems.TGNPDCL Chief Engineer, Investments Promotion Cell & Regulatory Affairs Cell (IPC & PAC), K. Venkata Ramana said officials of TGNPDCL, TGREDCO and representatives of banks would participate in the programmes and provide information on the scheme, including the application process, Central subsidy, bank loans, net metering and the benefits of rooftop solar.During a video conference at the TGNPDCL corporate office in Hanumakonda on Wednesday (September 30, 2026), Mr. Ramana issued directions to field officials to this effect.₹30,000 to ₹78,000 financial assistance for rooftop solar systemUnder the PM Surya Ghar scheme, eligible domestic consumers can avail themselves of Central Financial Assistance of ₹30,000 for a 1-kW rooftop solar system, ₹60,000 for a 2-kW system and up to ₹78,000 for a 3-kW system.Mr. Ramana said a 3-kW rooftop solar system could generate around 450 units of electricity a month, helping households reduce their electricity bills and potentially earn from surplus power.Nearly 30,000 rooftop solar connections registeredSo far, 29,621 rooftop solar connections have been registered in the TGNPDCL area, representing about 97 MW of installed capacity. Another 20,000 applications are under process and are expected to add around 60 MW of solar generation capacity.He said the ‘Seva Sethu’ initiative would be extended to villages and towns to encourage more households to adopt rooftop solar. With officials of the power utility, TGREDCO and banks available on a single platform, consumers would be able to clarify their doubts and obtain information on the scheme.
