COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M wide receiver Terry Bussey suffered an apparent right leg injury on the opening kickoff against Kentucky before getting carted off the field. A&M coach Mike Elko gave a pessimistic update regarding Bussey following the game, a 31-21 loss for the Aggies. “That’s probably going to be a long one,” Elko said. “We’ll hold a little bit ‘til Monday. But there’s no signs that indicate that’s good right now.” Texas A&M coach Mike Elko on Terry Bussey: “That’s probably going to be a long one. Near the end of the second quarter, Bussey returned to the sideline in street clothes and was observed walking around and putting pressure on his right leg. He initially couldn’t put any weight on his right leg after the injury, according to ESPN sideline reporter Kris Budden. Over that combined stretch, the former five-star recruit from Timpson (Texas) High caught seven passes for 92 yards while turning four carries into 10 yards and a touchdown. He also has served as the top kick returner for the team – bringing back his first three for 44 yards – while rotating with receiver Mario Craver on punt return. “It hurt me to see that first play after all the work Terry has put in,” A&M quarterback Marcel Reed said. “He’s been a really big guy for us, had a great game last week and we’re expecting a big game from him this week.” Without Bussey, the Aggies played shorthanded offensively. They were already without one of their top receivers, Ashton Bethel-Roman, and backup running back Jamarion Morrow. The two were ruled out for the game on their final availability report Saturday for undisclosed reasons. True freshman KJ Edwards initially filled the place of Morrow, turning five carries into 28 yards in the first half while catching two passes for six yards. But Elko said Edwards suffered an injury and was unavailable for the rest of the game. He didn’t total a touch in the second half. Craver (11 catches for 119 yards) and fellow A&M receiver Isaiah Horton (five receptions for 69 yards) helped fill the production void. But no other Aggie player tallied more than one catch or 11 receiving yards. “It certainly didn’t help, but our job is to have the next guy up and ready,” said Elko on their offensive attrition. “We’ve got to be ready, and we’ve got to go out and make plays.”
