‘Test the waters’ – Roger Federer, 45, teases shock new career as he RULES OUT following Andy Murray into coaching

ROGER FEDERER has ruled out following Andy Murray into top-level coaching — but TV work is a possibility. Yet he is unlikely to emulate Scotsman Murray, who has coached Novak Djokovic and now Jack Draper since retiring two years ago. Sign up for the Sport newsletter Thank you! Federer, 45, said: “Down the road, with the Laver Cup, the captain’s role is something I could consider. “Coaching at the minute? No. I’m too busy. Kids need my undivided attention. “Plus I have too many projects and I love my time and life with my wife. I don’t want to change that. “But never say never. Stefan Edberg never thought he would coach and then he got sucked into my world for two years and we had the best of times. “On commentary, I don’t know. Maybe I’ll pop into a booth. Maybe that’s simpler and to test the waters. It’s a friendly reminder — those were the good old times.” Murray’s stint working with old foe Djokovic was short-lived as they went their separate ways last summer. They only worked at one major tournament together at the Australian Open but decided to split just weeks out from Wimbledon. Djokovic said at the time: “Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun and support over (the) last six months. “On and off the court, I really enjoyed deepening our friendship together.” Murray has since moved on to British star Draper – though the 24-year-old’s progress has been blighted by a series of injury problems. Draper pulled out of Wimbledon and won’t appear at the US Open either. The Brit will not play in the New York Slam as he needs more time to recover from a persistent arm issue before committing to the rigours of five-set tennis. It is not known when Draper will next be on court and there is a concern he might miss the rest of the calendar year. Comment now
