THE August bank holiday is almost here, with Brits eager to use the long weekend to enjoy the summer weather before it blows away into autumn. Whether you want to stock up on some essentials and have a barbecue or just buy a few drinks to enjoy in the garden, Tesco will be a crucial destination for many this bank holiday weekend. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the summer bank holiday falls on Monday, August 31, with the Scots having already enjoyed theirs at the start of the month. If that feels later than usual, it’s because it is, as the long weekend always takes place on the last Monday of August – it just so happens that this year that falls on the final day of the month. That, however, isn’t the case for those north of the border, as they have one long weekend set in the calendar on Monday, November 30 to celebrate St Andrew’s Day. Most large stores and large Express branches in Scotland as well as locations in the Isle of Man will trade from 7am to 10pm. Whereas the majority of large stores and large Express branches in Northern Ireland will stick to their standard trading hours. Trading hours always tend to vary from branch to branch, so there’s a small chance you could be wasting time and petrol when setting off to pick up some groceries. For this reason, Tesco has advised customers to double check the opening hours of their nearest location to avoid disappointment. What can I get with Tesco Clubcard? TESCO'S Clubcard scheme allows shoppers to earn points as they shop. These points can then be turned into vouchers for money off food at the supermarket, or discounts at other places like restaurants and days out. Each time you spend £1 in-store and online, you get one point when you scan your Clubcard. Drivers using the loyalty card get one point for every two litres spent on fuel. One point equals 1p, so 150 points gets you a £1.50 money-off voucher, for example. You can double their worth when you swap them for discounts with “reward partners”. For example, £12 worth of vouchers can be swapped for a £24 three-month subscription to Disney+. Or you can swap 50p worth of points for £1 to spend at Hungry Horse pubs. Where you can spend them changes regularly, and you can check on the Tesco website what’s available now. Tesco shoppers can also get Clubcard prices when they have the loyalty card. The discounted items change regularly and without a Clubcard you’ll pay a higher price. These Clubcard prices are usually labelled on shelves, along with the non-member price. But it’s worth noting that just because it’s discounted doesn’t necessarily make it the cheapest around, and you should compare prices to find the best deal.
