Terrifying moment octopus latches onto fisherman’s face forcing him to club creature in suffocating tug-of-war

THIS is the hilarious moment an octopus clamped its tentacles onto a fisherman’s face forcing him to club the creature in a bizarre battle. Angler Jesser Cervantes was fishing off Puerto Princesa Island in Palawan, the Philippines, when he reeled in the feisty sea creature. At one point the eight-arm beast can be seen latching onto the fisherman’s mouth gluing it shut. The clip shows Angler frantically trying to peel away the gripping discs one by one. But the relentless octopus refuses to release its grip, forcing Angler to grab a cut bamboo stem and repeatedly tap the creature in a bid to loosen it. After several tense moments wrestling with the marine monster, he finally manages to tear it from his face. Angler then lowers the octopus back into the cold water and catches his breath after the exhausting struggle. He said: “The Octopus I caught was very hard to handle. Their formidable suction cups can generate a surprisingly powerful grip, making the creatures notoriously difficult to remove without carefully peeling away each arm. The hysterical moment comes after a horrific incident involving an aggressive octopus nearly strangling a diver after its home was disturbed. The eight-limbed creature shot a cloud of ink and latched onto the divers hands near Primorsky Krai, Russia, last year. Realising he could not detach from the touch marine mollusc, the frightened man then tried to rip the octopus off himself, which had stuck on using its extremely strong suction cups. He then started to swim upwards for air eventually reaching the surface where he gasped desperately for air. But even then, the creature was latched on, using its whole body to cover the mans upper torso and lower half of his face. According to local media, he was able to release the octopus from his body several minutes later. It is unclear however, whether the diver sustained any serious injuries. The octopus in the video is believed to be a common octopus, which is not known to be dangerous s to humans. They can grow up to 1.3 metres in length, and can weigh between 6.6 to 22 lbs, according to National Geographic. The mollusc does classify as poisonous, but its venom is not lethal. Comment now
