Terrifying moment man ‘claws up wall’ to get into student’s off-campus apartment building after following her home

THIS is the terrifying moment a man clambers up a locked gate to get into a student’s home after she went out to walk her dog. Eden Winograd, a junior at UC Berkeley, California, was followed to her off-campus apartment building by a man at around 8:04pm on Tuesday. The shocking incident, caught on a surveillance camera, shows the moment he got inside and quickly pulled something out of his jacket pocket before walking in the same direction as Eden. She told NBC Bay Area how when he first approached, she “started to panic but didn’t want to offend him” and so she crossed the street, which is when he started following. “I started speeding up and heard his feet banging on the floor behind me. “I went up to the gate, I buzzed myself in, I went, and I closed it, and then I heard clanging sounds while I was walking inside, and I turned around, and he was like scaling the gate. “My heart sank, I was out of breath, my heart was pounding…I don’t want to be chased the second I step out of my apartment. “I don’t want to be chased and have to watch someone claw their way up a wall to get to where I live.” According to the Berkeley Police Department, cops received a call from a woman who said she was out walking her dog when a man ran towards her. Most read in The Sun “The woman was able to get into her locked complex. The man scaled the locked gate and followed the woman inside,” cops said. They confirmed that there was “no direct contact between the woman and the man” who they identified as a homeless person in his 50s. The following day, cops received another call that the same man was lying on the sidewalk nearby. They detained and identified him, confirming he was the same person from the trespassing incident, but he was not arrested. A case has been submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for charging review, cops said. Comment now
