Sorry, this video isn't available yet. While we initially thought Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) was nothing more than a bully in Emmerdale, we soon realised she was so much worse. Upon her arrival, she set out to psychologically torture Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), making it her mission to hold his feet firmly to the fire while devising increasingly cruel ways to make his life a living hell at work, eventually even moving to the village to make him suffer at home, too. Just as it seemed Jacob was about to put an end to Todd’s reign of terror, the devious doctor learned that the baby Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) had just delivered was not, in fact, the implanted embryo of Jacob and Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), but the product of a one night stand between Charity and Ross Barton (Michael Parr). While she initially used the information to force Charity to convince Jacob to drop his HR complaint against Todd for her harassment, she soon sank even deeper into a serious blackmail campaign, demanding a huge sum of money from Charity who, desperate to keep the truth of baby Leyla’s parentage safe, tried her best to comply. Charity struggled under the pressure of Todd’s demands, attempting to sell her share of the Woolpack to Kim Tate (Claire King) to raise the funds, and when that failed, teaming up with Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) to rob Home Farm. No matter how hard she tried, though, Charity couldn’t produce the full amount that Todd was asking for and with Todd threatening to reveal the truth at Sarah’s 21st birthday party, Charity finally broke and told her to do her worst. With her bluff called, Todd went back on her threat and kept her mouth shut, but with her power snatched and position of authority threatened, she took an even more disgusting course of action: she raped a drunken Charity. In the aftermath, Charity utterly crumbled, masking her struggling mental health as post natal depression, but with the attention of Sarah and Mack doing little but ramping up the pressure on her, she fled, and found solace in a complete stranger: Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy), with whom she was finally able to bare her soul, revealing the truth about baby Leyla and what the horror Todd had inflicted on her. Charity has been reclaiming her power (Picture: Mark Bruce/ITV) Though she eventually revealed what’d happened to both Mack and her ex-girlfriend, Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), her bravery in reporting what’d happened to the police only resulted in the CPS refusing to charge due to a lack of evidence, and she was stung even further when what Todd did was legally classed as ‘sexual assault’ rather than rape, simply because she’s female. Taking to a support group, Charity struggled to find anybody to relate to, with all of the other attendees having been assaulted by men, making her feel even more alienated, and when she discovered another of Todd’s victims who was too terrified to report her own rape to the police, it seemed as though all was lost. But the flame was never snuffed, only dampened, and a return to the support group sees Charity make a first tentative step on the road to recovery and claiming back her power from the grim woman who tried to steal it. The final showdown (Picture: ITV) This week, though, Todd makes another move to keep Charity down, when she invades her home, and the two come face to face once again. Despite Charity demanding that she get out, Todd makes a grotesque comment about missing her ‘passion’, and as Charity makes a desperate grab for her phone to call for help, Todd snatches it away first, accusing Charity of spreading ‘filthy lies’ about her, and suggesting they get things straight.
