Caerphilly Councillor, Jamie Pritchardhas said six properties were severely affected by the major fire in Pantside, with some homes completely destroyed. Twelve fire appliances attended the blaze on Wednesday, August 12. Around 20 people were supported at temporary accommodation or Newbridge Leisure Centre overnight. By about 2.30am, all those affected had been checked into a Premier Inn. The council said it will work with affected families today to arrange longer-term temporary accommodation, while structural engineers assess the damaged properties. Fire crews descended on the scene yesterday afternoon with locals urged to stay away and keep their windows and doors shut due to smoke. Around 20 people were supported at temporary accommodation or Newbridge Leisure Centre overnight. By about 2.30am, all those affected had been checked into a Premier Inn. Julie Nichols, 74, told the BBC how she could hear the flames from inside her home and was left in “absolute fear”. “We were sat in the leisure centre and there were a few people that had actually lost their homes,” she said.
