Ten Pakistani police officers killed in drone attack

Islamabad: Pakistani police announced that 10 of their members were killed in an attack by militants using drones that targeted a police station in northwest Pakistan.Zulfiqar Hamid, the region's police chief, said in a statement that 10 police officers and 15 attackers were killed during clashes that lasted several hours. He added that the militants ambushed a police checkpoint after targeting it with explosive devices attached to quadcopter drones.He explained that the attack took place last night in the Hangu area near the Afghan border, an area where armed groups have long been active.Border areas in Pakistan have witnessed a sharp escalation in violence over the past few months, primarily targeting the army and police, following clashes and exchanges of fire between Pakistan and Afghanistan in fighting that has claimed hundreds of lives.
