Templegate tips massive 20-1 ante-post sprinter who can blow big field apart with trademark late rattle

COUL ANGEL (Ayr Gold Cup, September 19) COUL ANGEL looks a big price at 20-1 for the Ayr Gold Cup later this month. Michael Appleby’s flyer has run two mighty races at York this season and is more than good enough to make his mark. In July he put in a brilliant effort to finish second from a shocking draw and went back to the Knavesmire at the Ebor meeting. It was hard to miss his effort that time as he came home with a real rattle under Saffie Osborne. Again the draw was more than unkind and he’s due a change of luck on that score if heading to Scotland. He is at his best over the six-furlong trip on any ground. Most read in Horse Racing His late-finishing style means he’ll need luck in running but that general 20-1 looks fair enough. FLOWER SHOW — Sandown, Saturday On the face of it, this was a slightly disappointing effort after being backed on debut for Charlie Appleby. But this Dubawi filly did well to finish third after looking really green early on. William Buick let her come home in her own time and she will have learned massively from this. OLD OAK — Sandown, Friday Softer ground seemed to really help Richard Hannon’s youngster who had raced only on firm previously. But he travelled nicely here to finish second behind the potentially useful winner Algaihabane who found plenty when challenged. BRIGHTON BEACH — Goodwood, Friday William Haggas isn’t having his most stellar season but he has a future winner in this three-year-old filly. She’s no world-beater but is capable of winning handicaps when upped from this 1m2f after she finished strongly. GO VINCE GO — Carlisle, Thursday Tim Easterby got three wins out of him last season and his mark has reflected that. He’s finally had a little help from the handicapper and he went close here from 4lb below his last win. He should be getting his head back in front over sprint trips.
