Smartwatches can track your steps, sleep and heart rate, but what if a wearable could tell you more about what is happening around your brain? That is the idea behind Temple, a new wearable from Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal. After grabbing attention when Goyal wore it on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Temple is now getting closer to its public launch.Pre-orders for the device are set to open on November 1, 2026, with the first batch expected to be limited. The company has also confirmed six colour options. However, there is a catch for anyone hoping to get their hands on one quickly. Each device will be made to order, with delivery expected to take up to three months after purchase. We are now taking pre-orders from everyone who signed up for early access over the last few months. Check your mailbox for more. Everyone else, download the @temple app from the app stores, save your carts and get ready for pre-orders on Nov 1. https://t.co/Sr0z8OCpou— Deepinder Goyal (@deepigoyal) October 26, 2026What is Temple and what does it do?Temple is a small, pill-shaped wearable that sits on the side of your head, between your forehead and ear. Unlike a traditional smartwatch, which focuses on everyday fitness measurements, Temple aims to track signals linked to the brain. Its main technology is called BrainFlow. It uses optical sensors to monitor changes in cerebral blood flow, or the movement of blood through the brain. It also tracks signals associated with oxygenation and cognitive load, with the broader goal of helping users understand how their bodies respond to stress, exercise and recovery. The device also offers an Entropy score ranging from 1 to 250. This is designed to indicate physiological strain, and factors such as sleep, exercise, stress and caffeine can influence it. However, Temple is intended for wellness and research, not medical diagnosis. How do you wear Temple?Temple attaches to the skin using single-use adhesive tapes called Grips. The company says these help keep the device in place during everyday activities and workouts. According to Goyal, users can run, swim, shower and even use a sauna while wearing it, although scuba diving is not recommended. Each Grip can last around seven days, but the company recommends changing it every two to three days, especially if you sweat a lot or spend time in dusty conditions. The tapes should not be reused. The device is also slim enough to sit under glasses, while its smooth edges are designed to prevent clothes from catching on it.Temple price and colour optionsTemple's launch edition will be available in six colours: True Gold, Rose Gold, Black Mirror, Real Jade, Deep Blue and Purple Funk. The company has identified Real Jade, Deep Blue and Purple Funk as limited-edition options. As for the price, early-access invitations put it at Rs 85,000. However, buyers should look out for the company's final public pricing announcement before placing an order. When will Temple ship?Although pre-orders open on November 1, buyers may have to wait a while before the device arrives. Goyal has said that each Temple is hand-made to order and delivered within three months of purchase. He explained that the approach is partly about quality control and ensuring that each customer is served properly. The company has not announced how many units will be available in the first batch. For now, Temple is an unusual experiment in wearable technology, with potential uses ranging from tracking athletic recovery to studying fatigue and cognitive load. Goyal has also discussed possible future applications in aviation and research into converting brain-related signals into text, although the latter remains several years away.- Ends
