Temple lands another South Jersey star in Burlington Township LB Londyn Johnson

Londyn Johnson said he can’t remember a time in his life when he wasn’t playing football. After making one of the most important decisions of his life this week, the Burlington Township High School star won’t have to contemplate a life without it for quite some time. Johnson, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker, announced his verbal commitment to Temple Friday, choosing the Owls over an offer from Syracuse and several other FCS offers. Temple’s commitment list stands at 13 players with the addition of Johnson, who became the fifth player from New Jersey and the third from South Jersey to join Temple’s 2027 class, following in the footsteps of Pleasantville High School running back Ta’kiesse Barnes, Millville High School safety Jaden Days and Camden Eastside linebacker Amara Dolleh. Johnson took an unofficial visit to Temple back on June 19 and announced an offer from the Owls two days later. He took an official visit to Syracuse the week prior and picked up an official visit from the Orange during his visit. “The Temple and Syracuse offers were huge for me and meant a lot because those were my first FBS offers,” Johnson told OwlScoop, “and it was just a blessing that those schools recognized my talent.” The connection Johnson forged with Temple’s coaching staff bumped the Owls to the top of his list. “I like the culture and the coaches. They are all real genuine people,” he said. “The coaches are all passionate, have a lot of knowledge about ball, and overall provide a comfortable environment.” Johnson was part of a stout Burlington Township defense that helped carry the Falcons to the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 semifinals, where they lost to Mainland Regional. Burlington Township’s defense held opponents to just 8.1 points per game, and Johnson was a big part of the Falcons’ success, compiling 64 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, three sacks, two interceptions and two pass breakups. Although he’s also been able to succeed in an edge hybrid role, Johnson said he is likely to line up as an off-ball, weakside linebacker at Temple, one who wants to be aggressive and utilize the speed he’s flashed as part of Burlington Township’s track team as a sprinter. Johnson posted on X back on June 2 that he ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash at Fairleigh Dickinson’s camp. “I would describe myself as a violent playmaker who makes people in their seats stand up after making a play,” he said when asked to describe his playstyle. In offering his verbal pledge to Temple, Johnson became the first player from Burlington Township High School to commit to the Owls since Rod Streater, who played on North Broad Street during the 2010 and 2011 seasons and hauled in a touchdown pass in Temple’s win over Wyoming in the 2011 New Mexico Bowl. Streater, who spent six seasons in the NFL after going undrafted out of Temple, is now a West Coast Area scout with the Eagles.
