Telangana woman ties 6-year-old daughter to her waist, jumps into well; both die

The deceased were identified as Gotla Rajitha, and her daughter Akshita.Talking about the case, police said Rajitha was married to Merugu Anjaiah, a resident of Jagitial district, around seven years ago. The couple had two children -- Akshita and their 18-month-old son, Mahender.According to preliminary information, Rajitha had been staying at her parents’ house in Lingapur along with her children for some time amid marital discord. Anjaiah used to visit the house occasionally to meet the children.On Sunday morning, while Rajitha’s parents were away at work, Anjaiah came over and met the children. A dispute allegedly broke out between the couple before he left, police said. Soon after, Rajitha reportedly put her infant son to sleep and left the house with Akshita. She allegedly took the child to an agricultural well near the village, tied her to the waist and jumped into it. Before the incident, Rajitha reportedly called her sister and told her that she was going to take the extreme step.The incident came to light after the bodies of Rajitha and Akshita were found in the well. Police reached the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. Police are looking into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, including the reported marital dispute.
