The move is aimed at averting shortages and preparing for a possible acute water crisis in the coming months amid El Nino conditions.Following Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s directions, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has initiated work to interconnect existing pipelines to facilitate the diversion. As part of the plan, pipeline interconnection works are underway near Velimela village, close to the Outer Ring Road to link the 3,000-mm-diameter Godavari ring main with the 1,200-mm-diameter Manjira Phase-III and IV gravity main pipelines. The interconnection is expected to enable Godavari water to be diverted into the Singur–Manjira supply network as required.HMWSSB Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy is overseeing the preparations. The Board’s Technical Director Prabhu and Chief General Manager Rajashekhar inspected the works at Velimela on Sunday and reviewed their progress.Once the interconnection works are completed, Godavari water can be supplied to areas served by the Singur–Manjira system, and help reduce the risk of drinking water supply disruptions during periods of scarcity.
