CHELSEA’s first goal of pre-season was scored by a TRIALIST who doesn’t even officially play for them yet. Kazakhstan wonderkid Dastan Satpayev, 17, is not a registered Blues player until his birthday next month – but still bagged within seven minutes against Western Sydney Wanderers. And the forward, wearing No36, made a blistering start when put through on goal at the Accor Stadium. Sign up for the Chelsea newsletter Thank you! He surged through the middle of the pitch and smashed in a finish at the near post. Baby-faced attacker Satpayev was sent through from deep by Cobham academy graduate Ryan Kavuma-McQueen. A sheepish Satpayev, who played in the Champions League last season for European minnows Kairat, celebrated his goal with young defender Olutayo Subuloye. Kavuma-McQueen, Reggie Walsh, and Liam Delap all joined him in a round of high fives. Satpayev trained with Alonso at Chelsea‘s pre-season camp prior to flying out to Australia. He was named in the touring squad and became a big attraction for fans at their open training session in Sydney. Satpayev was a huge draw for supporters with Kazakhstan flags in the crowd of 5,000 at the Allianz Stadium over the weekend. Chelsea were aware of the fanfare he might get as a bright light of his country’s game. They agreed to buy him for around £3.5million but did not need any special dispensation for him to feature. His five year deal at Stamford Bridge will not kick into gear until he turns 18. Chelsea simply needed permission from Kairat for him to play – as well as trial forms being signed and parental permission. Satpayev scored 26 times in 58 appearances for the Kairat senior side and made his full international debut in March 2025. He netted first goal against Belgium in November and now has a chance to prove what he can do. Chelsea have not yet decided if he will stay at the club, go on loan, or play in the academy moving forward. Alonso picked a team full of kids for his first game – although Chelsea did play two behind-closed-doors friendlies last week against EFL sides Crawley and Bromley. Satpayev was joined by Cobham hopefuls Landon Emenalo, Reggie Watson, Subuloye, Walsh, and Kavuma-McQueen with star power left on the bench in the first half. Comment now
