Teen fights for life after being stabbed in city centre as streets cordoned off & man arrested at major UK airport

A MAN has been arrested at an airport after a stabbing in the city centre. Emergency services were called to the scene following reports of an incident at around 12.50pm today on Church Street in Manchester. He was rushed to hospital with “life-threatening” injuries but is now in a stable condition, Greater Manchester Police reported. Cops cordoned off a large stretch of the street in the Northern Quarter this afternoon, with blockades extending to other connecting streets. The suspect, who is in his early 20s, was located three hours after the incident and arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault. He remains in custody as the enquiry continues. Detective Chief Inspector Chris Woodburn said: “Following the incident on Church Street this afternoon, our officers have worked at an incredible pace to piece together what had happened, which has led to us arresting a suspect at the Airport. “In any incident of this nature, it is understandable for those who live and work in the area, including members of the public who have come to visit Manchester to feel apprehensive.
