Now, years later, the series has just wrapped up season 4, with the incredible finale, "Being Alive." The finale saw some of the most beloved characters taking big next steps toward their futures, as well as some tearful farewells. Many of the most pressing questions of season 4 have been answered, but there's still room for Ted Lasso to keep going. Ted Lasso season 4 has brought the series back into the spotlight after the somewhat lukewarm reception of season 3. While the core tone and warmth of the writing that have defined the show from the beginning remain the same, Ted Lasso pushed itself in the most recent outing, bringing in new characters and the new women's team while further developing original characters. Though season 4 has only just wrapped, questions about the show's future are already being asked. There's clear potential, not just for season 5, but for additional installments after that, that could cement Ted Lasso as one of the best shows of the 2020s. Ted Lasso Season 5 Hasn't Been Confirmed Yet Colin Hutton/©Apple TV/Courtesy Everett Collection Apple TV hasn't officially confirmed Ted Lasso season 5, but Matt Cherniss, Apple TV's head of programming, seems confident that the team will be back for the next installment before too long (via Screen Rant). After the stunning return to form on display in Ted Lasso season 4, it would be shocking if audiences didn't get to see Ted and the gang come back for at least one more season. The good news is, just because Apple hasn't officially greenlit Ted Lasso for another outing, this is no reason to believe it isn't coming. Before season 4 premiered, the writers and creators of the show needed a good reason to revive the sport's comedy, and a single-season storyline wouldn't be enough. What Ted Lasso's Cast & Creators Have Said About Season 5 Image via MovieStillsDB It's no secret that the decision to bring Ted Lasso back for season 4 was an unexpected one. After the conclusive season 3 finale, it didn't feel like there was much reason to return to Richmond. However, this is what made the success and quality of season 4 so satisfying. Shaking things up by focusing on the women's team and introducing great new characters like Alice Chilton (Tanya Reynolds). There are a lot of factors in play when it comes to the future of Ted Lasso, but comments from the series' co-creator and star, Jason Sudeikis, say a lot about what we can expect. Sudeikis has stated he has a three-season arc in mind for the Richmond women's team, and the writers' room could be back together soon to start piecing together season 5 if all goes well (via The Hollywood Reporter). It would only be fair for the women's team to get three seasons of development the same way the men's team did in the first three seasons of Ted Lasso. Now that the Lady Greyhounds are saved thanks to Rebecca maintaining controlling shares of Richmond, the future is bright for the players who have been working all season to make the team succeed. It's clear that Sudeikis and the writers have plenty more planned after the events of season 4, episode 10, "Being Alive." How Ted Lasso Season 4's Ending Sets Up Season 5 Apple TV With Alice taking the next step as head coach and Ted and Beard becoming assistant managers, there's a lot of room to explore new dynamics and challenges in Ted Lasso season 5. That's far from the only big change, as Roy and Keely are expecting a child together, and Roy's new position coaching Chelsea means he'll be moving on from Richmond. These are logical next steps for the characters after the events of season 4, but they leave some questions as well. Ted Lasso season 5 will be a different show with Ted and Beard stepping away from coaching the team, and Alice potentially taking on a larger role moving forward. If the plan for more seasons of Ted Lasso gets off the ground, the season 4 finale has laid the groundwork for many exciting changes. Fans might even get to see Rebecca get her happily ever after with Matthijs in the wake of her marriage proposal. Ted Lasso distinguished itself from other sports comedies and original shows on Apple TV from the beginning. It's the series' ability to evolve and continue pushing its characters to grow that allowed the writers to take a risk with season 4, and it's one that has paid off. There's no clear answer about where season 5 will take the beloved show, but if there are already rumblings about at least two more seasons, there's a lot to look forward to.
