Ted Lasso coaches its way to lift the viewership trophy at Apple TV. Apple TV's library of shows is packed with offerings from every genre possible. However, Ted Lasso has always been one of the top performers for the streaming service, which is why many viewers were shocked when Ted Lasso season 3's ending seemed to be the sports comedy's final chapter. At that time, the show was still extremely popular, so it felt like a lot was being left on the table. Three years later, Ted Lasso season 4's story recently marked a major shift for the series, introducing the AFC Richmond's women's team, and viewers showed up again for the hit series. According to Nielsen (via Variety), Ted Lasso season 4's first episode debuted with 296.6 million minutes watched over two days, making it Apple TV's biggest launch ever. Of that total, 200 million minutes came only from August 5, making Ted Lasso the most-watched Apple TV show in the United States on that day. Based on that, Ted Lasso season 4 had a bigger debut than all previous seasons of the sports comedy series, as well as popular Apple TV shows like Severance, Silo, The Morning Show, Slow Horses, and many more. At the time of writing, Ted Lasso stands as the most-watched show on Apple TV in the United States, boosted by the recent release of Ted Lasso season 4, episode 2, "Curiouser and Curiouser!," which dropped on the streaming service on Wednesday, August 12. Different from season 1, which released three episodes on the same day as a binge release before switching to a weekly release for the rest of its 10 episodes, Ted Lasso season 4 is releasing all of its 10 episodes weekly, which is the show earning the biggest Apple TV debut to date is so impressive. That said, Ted Lasso was already Apple TV's most popular series when season 3 seemed to have ended the show back in 2023. Not only that, but according to another Nielsen report from January 29, 2024, Ted Lasso stood as the most-watched streaming original series in the United States in 2023, racking up 16.9 billion minutes watched. As such, anticipation built for the return of the hit series over a three-year period, which led to the Ted Lasso season 4 premiere recording the biggest TV show launch in Apple TV history. The sports comedy should continue to dominate for months. The Ted Lasso season 4 finale is scheduled for October 7. In the season premiere, Apple TV aired a bridge episode that perfectly explained what the show's core characters had been up to in the years since they were last seen, culminating in Jason Sudeikis' Ted Lasso choosing to accept the job of coaching AFC Richmond's new women's team. Ted Lasso season 4 currently holds a 90% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. The remaining episodes will see how Ted's team goes through the season, with plenty of new characters coming in to change the show's dynamics. Plans for Ted Lasso seasons 5 and 6 are already in place, and this new Apple TV record strongly suggests that the streamer will follow through on them. Release Date August 14, 2020 Network Apple TV Showrunner Bill Lawrence, Jason Sudeikis
