Ted Cruz on future of Democratic Party: ‘I’ve never been more frightened for our nation’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) expressed concern about the future of the United States while discussing the Democratic Party’s shift toward embracing candidates with progressive worldviews and policies.“I have never been more frightened for our nation than I am right now,” Cruz said on Hang Out with Sean Hannity on Tuesday.“We are seeing a communist takeover and an Islamist takeover of the Democratic Party, and it is dangerous because if these zealots ever get in control, their objective is to permanently damage and destroy this country,” Cruz said. Some Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), have welcomed left-wing candidates such as Michigan’s Abdul el Sayed, despite el Sayed not being affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America, though he has attended multiple DSA-sponsored events. “Look, we are a big tent party, and being a big tent party is a strength, not a weakness,” Schumer said.But Cruz sees it differently.“We’re not fighting over little stuff. We’re not fighting over whether the top marginal tax rate is 35% or 37%. That matters, but the universe is not going to turn on that question,” the Texas senator continued. “We’re fighting over whether the greatest nation in the history of the world survives or goes under. And that’s a reason to show up for work every day, strap on the armor, and go to battle.”There is speculation about whether Cruz will run for president in the 2028 election due to recent comments he has made.Last Wednesday, Cruz appeared as a guest on Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s (R-TX) podcast, saying, “It’s no secret that I want to be president.”The Texas senator previously ran for president in the 2016 election, but lost to President Donald Trump.However, when Cruz was asked on NBC News’s Meet the Press on Sunday whether he was seriously considering running for president in 2028, he emphasized that he was focused at this time on helping other Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections.“You know, the Book of Ecclesiastes tells us there’s a time for every season, and this is not that season right now,” Cruz said. “This is the season of the midterms, and I’ll tell you, I’m spending my time on the road, campaigning for candidates all over the country.
