Smartphone manufacturer Tecno has revealed a teaser of its latest concept phone, called the Tecno Borderless Concept, and it appears to have solved a long-standing problem of how to remove the bezels around the screen. An industry first We’ve seen phones described as bezel-less in the past, including the Sharp Aquos Crystal and the Xiaomi Mi Mix, but none come close to the true bezel-less design of the Tecno Borderless Concept. Tecno claims a 0mm border around the screen, making it an industry-first, which it has achieved by complex internal re-engineering. The result is startling. The concept video shows a phone without the 1mm to 2mm black border we’re used to seeing on modern phones, and it barely looks real. It almost looks like a suspect composite image, where a big display has been superimposed onto a phone’s body, instead of an actual device. Engineering at its best Tecno says it has reconstructed the display, re-engineered the phone’s internal structure, and packaged the display components in a new way to reduce the black border down to zero microns. Apart from looking like a prop from a sci-fi movie, Tecno says the elimination of the border will help people better connect with on-screen content, and enjoy games, video, and reading more. Previous so-called bezel-less phones, like those mentioned above, repackaged the internal components into a larger than usual chin, so only three sides of the screen were borderless. Even then, a minimal bezel was usually visible. A concept for now The Tecno Borderless Concept is a concept phone, as the name suggests, and Tecno is well-known for pushing boundaries with a host of concept devices. At MWC 2026, we gave its innovative modular phone a best-in-show award. Previously, it has demonstrated a tri-fold folding smartphone, and shown how it may change phone camera telephoto zooms in the future. Does this mean the Tecno Borderless Concept will never go on sale? Tecno intends to show the real thing off at the IFA 2026 technology trade show, which takes place in Berlin, Germany, this September. It goes on to say: The core technologies developed for this concept, from cameras and touch sensitivity to optimized sound and smart UI interactions, pave the way for future flagship innovations, bringing new possibilities to Tecno’s upcoming device generations. Like all concept phones, we’ll have to wait and see what happens, but considering it has already put in all the hard work, it would be a shame not to see a commercial release of a Tecno phone without a bezel around the screen.
