Technical challenges delay works at key Muscat junction project

Muscat: Muscat Municipality has clarified that the project at one of Muscat Governorate’s key junctions is being implemented by the private sector in accordance with the designs and technical approvals issued by the competent authorities.The municipality said the project is not owned or directly implemented by it. Its role is limited to supervision and oversight within its jurisdiction, in coordination with the relevant authorities to regulate traffic and enhance transport infrastructure in the city. It explained that the technical approvals required for privately implemented projects are issued by the competent authorities, while the project owner and developer are responsible for implementation through specialised contractors and consulting firms.According to the municipality, follow-up on the project has identified a number of technical challenges during the implementation stages, particularly those related to completing works connecting the existing commercial building with the existing bridge. Differences in elevations and the compatibility between existing and newly constructed elements also required a review of certain technical and implementation aspects.The implementing company is currently addressing the technical and construction challenges that have affected the progress of the project. Muscat Municipality is coordinating with the developer, project owner and supervising consultant to review the plans, technical requirements and work programme, with the aim of addressing the challenges and reaching appropriate technical and construction solutions.The municipality added that, following completion of the reviews and coordination among the relevant parties, the project works will resume under an updated implementation programme that ensures compliance with technical requirements, safety standards and transport infrastructure requirements in the area.
