TCS building AI platform to accelerate drug discovery, clinical trials in India

TCS has launched ADD AgentHub, a new AI platform designed to help pharmaceutical companies with drug development, clinical trials and drug safety. The platform uses AI agents to analyse data, review medical literature and assist with clinical workflows. While much of the work will be handled by AI, the company says humans will still be there to oversee the process and remain in charge of important decisions. The TCS ADD AgentHub is designed to help pharma companies deploy specialised AI agents across their research and development workflows. TCS says the platform is built for the highly regulated pharmaceutical industry, where companies need to balance the benefits of AI with strict requirements around safety, governance and audits.“TCS ADD AgentHub, is a role-based, enterprise-ready, and trusted AI platform that will enable our customers to accelerate drug development using agentic AI at scale,”says Debashis Ghosh, President, Lifesciences and Healthcare, TCS. “It enables a shift from reactive to proactive, scalable, and audit-ready operations amidst an ever-changing regulatory environment.”How does TCS ADD AgentHub works?Instead of asking one AI system to do everything, TCS ADD AgentHub will let pharmaceutical companies use different AI agents for different jobs. According to the company, these agents can assist with tasks across clinical development and pharmacovigilance, which is the process of monitoring medicines for safety after they are being developed or used.For example, the AI agents can help with data entry, coding, reviewing information and analysing medical literature. They can also assist with designing studies, turning clinical trial protocols into digital formats, reviewing clinical data and helping with medical monitoring. TCS says companies can add these AI agents gradually, depending on what they need and the technology they already use. TCS says its AI platform could also cut down on some of the repetitive work involved in drug development. Solutions powered by the platform have demonstrated up to 40 per cent efficiency gains in clinical data management, while metadata-driven automation can reduce the effort needed to build clinical studies by up to 30 per cent. The company also claims up to 30 per cent cost savings in end-to-end safety case processing, while AI-powered safety agents can reduce quality-control effort by as much as 50 per cent.AI will replace jobs in drug development?So, does this mean AI is now coming for jobs in drug development? Not quite, at least according to TCS. The company says the aim is not to replace scientists or take humans out of the process.
