TBD Post Hires Industry Veteran Matt Wallis As Head Of Post & Operations

EXCLUSIVE: The co-creator of Showtime’s Emmy-nominated Disgraced has joined Austin’s TBD Post. Matthew Wallis was named Head of Post & Operations at the Texas-based post-production studio, which works on feature films, series, commercials and branded content for clients including Apple TV, Netflix, Disney and next-gen filmmakers like hugely popular YouTuber Markiplier. Wallis is known as co-creator and co-exec producer on 2017 feature doc Disgraced, which followed the 2003 case of the death of Baylor University basketball star Patrick Dennehy at the hands of teammate Carlton Dotson. He was also head of post on CNN’s High Profits. The 20-year industry veteran has served as producer and post-production supervisor on more than 100 hours of film and TV. At TBD Post, Wallis will oversee staff, technology, strategy, and workflow across editorial, color, VFX, sound, and finishing, and lead projects from bid through delivery. His hire is part of an expansion of headcount at TBD, which is set to take advantage of the new Texas film incentive scheme, which will total $1.5B over ten years. Watch on Deadline TBD’s founders – Ted Griffis and Brandon Thomas – were among the group that last month launched Goldenrod, a technology-focused production business that consults on opportunities available from the expanded Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Program. “I’ve worked with TBD since the company started, first as a client, then as a producer. I knew what this team could do long before I considered joining, and that’s most of why I did,” said Wallis. “After twenty years building the systems that let creative people do their best work, I’m bringing all of it here, starting the way I always do, by listening and asking a lot of questions. I’m excited for our future, and the future of post production in Texas.” TBD’s recent credits include Markiplier’s feature Iron Lung, Netflix sports pic The Long Game and Apple TV documentary Fathom, as well as film, television and commercial projects for brands such as Range Rover, EA, Bacardi and Dodge. “Matt has sat in our suites and theaters as a client for over a decade,” said Griffis. “He’s seen our work from the other side of the glass, and he knows exactly where we can go next. Handing him the reins on operations frees the rest of us to stay hands-on with the craft and keep raising the bar for our clients.”
