Paramount+ has made a decision on Tulsa King's future. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the crime thriller series follows Sylvester Stallone as Dwight Manfredi as he is sent by his mob boss to expand their empire to the eponymous Oklahoma region, only to begin establishing an organization of his own while there. Also starring Martin Starr, Jay Will, Garrett Hedlund and Annabelle Sciorra, among many others, Tulsa King has garnered consistently strong reviews across its three-released seasons and frequently establishing itself as a smash viewership hit for Paramount+. Tulsa King season 4 is picking up sometime after the events of the season 3 finale, with Dwight now a step closer to legitimizing his plans by acquiring a federal liquor license from Kevin Pollak's Musso as part of a deal for the information acquired from Dallas Roberts' Deacon. However, as tensions build between both his original mob family, others looking to take the power he's built in the region, and the law also looking to reclaim control, Dwight's ambitions are facing its biggest hurdles yet. Now, with just over a week until the show's return, Paramount+ has officially confirmed that Tulsa King will return for season 5. Additionally, the streamer confirmed that the next season will be shifting its filming locations from Atlanta to New York for its storyline, with production now underway. Furthermore, the show has upgraded Scarlet Rose Stallone to a series regular while also adding I Play Rocky's Erik Palladino, Billions' Glenn Fleshler, The Last Frontier's Anthony Skordi and Power Book IV: Force's Nickola Shreli in new series regular roles. Drew Brown, EVP of Physical Production at Paramount Television Studios, wrote of the renewal: We are thrilled to bring fans even more of this incredible series, and to be shooting the next season of Tulsa King in New York, where Dwight Manfredi’s story will continue to evolve. We’re proud of the work we’ve done in Georgia, and it remains an important venue for us. The confirmation of season 5 already being in the works at Paramount+ comes as an encouraging sign for fans of the series. Tulsa King seasons 3 and 4 memorably underwent some rocky behind-the-scenes shuffles, including the departure of former showrunner Terence Winter multiple times, as well as replacement Dave Erickson, with reports indicating much of season 4 was produced without an actual showrunner attached. The latter's exit was initially believed to be due to his Mayor of Kingstown duties, though other reports indicated creative differences with Sheridan. Interestingly, Winter did return for Tulsa King season 4, albeit now with the credit of head writer instead of showrunner, a title Marvel Studios has similarly employed for the creators of their Disney+ series. The season 5 renewal announcement continued to cite Winter as the show's head writer, though didn't directly specify what his position would be on the next chapter of the show beyond helping executive produce it. Arguably the most notable takeaway from Tulsa King season 5's confirmation is that the show is moving to New York for its next set of episodes. The first three seasons have occasionally seen Dwight venture back to his home area to meet with his bosses, though given season 3 saw him taking his biggest steps to separate himself from the pack, it could point to season 4 ending on a devastating note for Stallone's character requiring him to head back to New York. With Sheridan said to have a six-season plan for the series, the early renewal does point to Paramount+ being fully committed to seeing this vision through. Tulsa King season 4 premieres on Paramount+ on October 16.
