Netflix has become one of the streaming homes for a Taylor Sheridan hit crime thriller series that was canceled way too soon, and it has instantly turned into a global streaming sensation. Sheridan is one of the busiest creators in the industry, having several movies and TV shows in different stages of development. Among the list of Sheridan's best projects to date are the Yellowstone TV franchise, which has expanded past the original Western series to also include prequels and sequels, as well as movies like Sicario and Hell or High Water, and TV shows like Lioness, Tulsa King, and many more. Paramount+'s slate of TV shows holds many of the projects Sheridan has created, produced, directed, or written on. If you look at the streaming service's United States chart right now, three out of 10 trending TV shows are tied to Sheridan, including the Yellowstone spin-off shows Marshals and Dutton Ranch, and the spy thriller series Lioness. Jeremy Renner's crime thriller series Mayor of Kingstown debuted on Paramount+ in 2021 and has run for four seasons on the streaming service so far, but it is through its recent release on Netflix that the show has become an instant global streaming hit. Sheridan's Mayor Of Kingstown Is Already A Massive Netflix Hit Back in January, Netflix revealed that multiple Paramount+ titles, including shows like David Boreanaz's SEAL Team, the Sherlock Holmes reimagining as a medical drama Watson, and Sheridan's Mayor of Kingstown, would be added to the streamer as part of a new licensing deal. The first four seasons of Mayor of Kingstown began streaming on Netflix on Monday, October 5, with the crime thriller series currently being the 4th most-watched TV show on Netflix worldwide — it is still streaming on Paramount+ — according to FlixPatrol. Based on that, Sheridan's Mayor of Kingstown has become an instant global streaming hit on Netflix. On the streamer's global chart, only three Netflix Original series stand between Mayor of Kingstown and the top spot. Those are Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, Not a Stranger, and East of Eden. According to FlixPatrol data, Mayor of Kingstown is currently trending on Netflix in 52 countries. Mayor of Kingstown is also the 4th most popular TV show on Netflix in the United States. Ahead of it on the streaming service's domestic chart are the comedy A Different World, Florence Pugh's historical drama East of Eden, and WWE's Raw. Disney+'s licensed Percy Jackson and the Olympians sits at 10th. How Did Season 4 Set Up The Show's Finale? Despite being a hit, Sheridan's Mayor of Kingstown was canceled by Paramount+, though the show was given a fifth and final season to wrap up its many storylines. Mayor of Kingstown season 5 will have eight episodes, going down from the crime thriller's usual 10-episode count for its first four seasons. At the end of Mayor of Kingstown season 4, the show finally saw Taylor Handley's Kyle McLusky get his revenge on Richard Brake's Merle Callahan. The Sheridan-created series also left the city in chaos, which season 5 will have to resolve. Mayor of Kingstown season 5's release date has yet to be announced.
