Landman season 3 starts a new era for Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) that will further widen the divide within Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace's Texas oil drama. Now filming for a 2027 premiere on Paramount+, Landman season 3 will pick up from the seismic events that changed the lives of the Norris family in season 2's finale. Landman season 2 ended with Tommy Norris forming his own oil company, the unusually named CCT Oil Exploration and Cattle. Tommy was fired as president of M-TEX Oil by Cami Miller (Demi Moore), but the eponymous landman pivoted to a new scheme that pulls nearly every member of his family and their closest friends into a risky endeavor that puts their futures in their own hands. With financing from Danny "Gallino" Morrell (Andy Garcia), Tommy plans to drill new wells discovered by his son, CCT's new president, Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland). From Tommy's father, T.L. Norris (Sam Elliott), to new chief counsel and COO Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace), to even Ariana Medina (Paulina Chavez) as CCT's secretary, Landman's cast now works under Tommy's umbrella. Well, almost everyone. Landman Season 3's Main Story Will Be Even More Separated From Ainsley & Angela Image via Paramount+ Angela (Ali Larter) and Ainsley Norris (Michelle Randolph) are the only two Landman main characters not working for or with CCT Oil Exploration and Cattle in some way. Instead, Ainsley has enrolled at Texas Christian University, and Angela will continue to be a hands-on parent supporting Ainsley's cheerleading and college career. TCU is located in Fort Worth, Texas, about 300 miles from Midland, where Tommy lives and where CCT Oil Exploration and Cattle is based. While Tommy regularly drives the 600 miles round-trip in Landman, the physical distance reinforces the divide between Tommy, his ex-wife, and their college student daughter. Indeed, Angela is based out of Fort Worth to stay close to Ainsley. Landman has long felt like Angela and Ainsley existed in an entirely separate show. Tommy's work as a landman is the show's center of gravity, and Ainsley and Angela spent more and more time on the outskirts in Landman season 2. Angela's pet project of entertaining the residents of an old folks' home was completely removed and a distraction from Landman's Tommy-centric main story. In Landman season 3, Ainsley's college career is poised to be its own show-within-a-show, likely removed completely from CCT Oil Exploration and Cattle. While Angela and Ainsley will certainly see Tommy and Cooper, and the cast in Midland will go to Fort Worth and vice versa, Landman season 3 will feel more than ever like two separate shows co-existing. Landman Season 3 Can Finally Fix Ainsley Norris Image via Paramount+ Landman season 2 felt more and more like Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace didn't know what to do with Angela and Ainsley. Angela and Tommy's trajectory as a reunited married couple was set, even if they continue to exist as "oil and water." Yet there was no room in Tommy's work life for his ex-wife and daughter, and that only became exacerbated as Landman continued. Landman season 2 seemed to regress Tommy's daughter. While Ainsley was presented as innocent for her 17 years, except in matters of sex that made her father blush, Landman season 2 seemed to regress Tommy's daughter. Blonde bombshell Ainsley suddenly became dumb to draw laughs by how she exasperates people she encounters at TCU. Meanwhile, Angela is Ainsley's sole role model since Tommy's daughter isn't privy to (or interested in) his vast expertise in the oil business. Ainsley must start to mature in Landman season 3, while still being the same good-hearted girl who is Tommy and Angela's pride and joy. College will hopefully challenge and reveal new facets to Ainsley, the way she found common ground with her new roommate, Paigyn (Bobbi Salvör Menuez). Landman will surely give Ainsley a college romance, but what she needs the most in season 3 is to start to grow up. Landman season 2 largely turned Ainsley into Angela's sidekick who simply followed her mother around. Landman season 3 will give Ainsley a greater spotlight in college, and it will hopefully work well as a counterbalance to everyone else working with and for Tommy's new oil company.
