Tata Motors' flagship electric SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time. Vertically stacked lighting elements are visible at the edges of the bumper, while the slim LED daytime running lights are likely concealed beneath the camouflage. The side profile reveals flush-fitting door handles, conventionally mounted ORVMs, large aerodynamic alloy wheels and pronounced body cladding. The long rear doors hint at a spacious cabin, while the rear section appears to feature wraparound tail lamps and a roof-mounted spoiler. While earlier reports suggested the production model would be based on Jaguar Land Rover's Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA), the first Avinya will instead use the Freelander platform developed by Chery-JLR (CJLR).Production is expected to take place at the newly inaugurated TMPV-JLR manufacturing facility in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu.Expected battery, range and featuresOfficial technical specifications remain under wraps, but the first Avinya SUV could be offered with battery packs ranging between 70kWh and 80kWh. The premium EV is expected to deliver a competitive driving range, support high-speed DC fast charging and feature advanced connected technologies and software-defined vehicle architecture.Tata is also expected to equip the Avinya with next-generation driver assistance systems, over-the-air software updates, premium infotainment and a technology-focused interior in line with its flagship positioning.Tata's premium EV ambitionsRather than being a single model, Avinya is expected to evolve into a dedicated family of premium electric vehicles. The first production model is likely to be called Avinya X, with additional SUVs and larger EVs planned over the coming years.Unlike Tata's mainstream passenger vehicles, the Avinya range is expected to be sold through a separate premium retail and service network, offering a differentiated ownership experience.
