The Legend Series is focussed on offering more equipment for the money. Tata has introduced the Smart+ L, Pure L, Pure L (O), Pure+ L and Adventure+ L variants, with the new versions sitting alongside the existing Signature Series. There are no changes to the mechanical package. The Sierra continues with its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The naturally aspirated petrol produces 106hp and 145Nm, the turbo-petrol develops 160hp and 255Nm, while the diesel makes 118hp, with 260Nm in manual guise and 280Nm when paired with the automatic transmission. Manual and automatic gearboxes continue to be offered depending on the variant. The Smart+ L, for example, gets leatherette upholstery and interior trim, steering-mounted controls, auto-folding ORVMs, roof rails and 17-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. The Pure L takes a significant step up in equipment, adding a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, wireless smartphone connectivity, a rear camera, cruise control, TPMS, a rear wiper and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Pure L (O) adds a panoramic sunroof along with automatic headlamps and rain-sensing wipers. The Pure+ L goes further with ventilated front seats, a six-way powered driver’s seat, thigh-support extension, Boss Mode, dual-zone climate control and a full leatherette interior. Features include a 360-degree camera, frequency-dependent dampers, terrain modes, dual 12.3-inch displays, front parking sensors, a reclining rear seat, ambient lighting, wireless charging and a cooled glove box.The significance of the Legend Series, therefore, is less about introducing new features to the Sierra and more in making existing equipment available lower down the range. Buyers who do not necessarily want to move to the higher-end versions can now access several features further down the range. Mechanically, however, the Sierra remains unchanged. The Dark Edition takes a more straightforward approach. It is aimed at buyers who want their Sierra to look different, rather than those looking for additional equipment or a different mechanical specification. Tata has complemented this with darker treatment for elements such as the exterior badging and selected trim, while the alloy wheels also get a darker finish. The overall design of the Sierra remains unchanged. The cabin gets a more noticeable departure from the standard versions. The Dark Edition uses a black-and-purple theme, with purple metallic inserts and detailing on the interior, along with purple stitching on the seats and other selected areas. The underlying dashboard design and equipment specification remain linked to the corresponding Sierra variant. The Dark Edition is available from the Pure L upwards and can be specified with the Sierra’s existing engine and transmission combinations, depending on the variant. As a result, there are no changes to power, torque, gearbox choices or the SUV’s mechanical hardware. The Legend Series makes the equipment structure more compelling by bringing higher-spec features into lower variants, while the Dark Edition provides a styling-focused alternative for buyers who want something more distinctive. Neither changes the fundamental character of the Sierra, but both add more ways for buyers to configure the SUV.The Tata Sierra Legend Series is priced from ₹11.99 lakh to ₹19.49 lakh, ex-showroom. The Sierra Dark Edition is priced from ₹13.99 lakh to ₹21.59 lakh, ex-showroom.Motorscribes, in association with The Hindu, brings you the latest in cars and bikes. Follow them on @motorscribes
