As the 2027 presidential election is fast approaching many Nigerians are wondering what members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will showcase as their achievements in the last three and a half years when Nigerians still do not enjoy electricity, good roads, and security. Just last week, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) increased the pump price of petrol to N1,345 per litre at its retail outlets in Abuja, thereby making life more difficult for Nigerians. This is why the assurance by the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, that the ruling party will fulfill the promises it made to the electorate as it seeks the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 left many disillusioned. Speaking at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja when party supporters gathered to welcome him following his appointment, Yari said the APC remained committed to delivering on the commitments it made to Nigerians during the 2023 presidential campaign. One truth Yari does not know is that the last three years of Tinubu in power has exposed weaknesses in the political structure behind him. It is obvious that Yari is relying on the power of incumbency and not the fact that the president no longer enjoys the level of political strength he had during the 2023 election. The economic hardship facing Nigerians today has left many people disillusioned with his style of governance, with hope giving way to despair. Many Nigerians feel that the APC does not deserve another four years in office because the country is already in a state of disaster as a result of poor governance. In the last three years, many have seen that the party is very weak on governance. They feel that it does not deserve another four years in office because the country is already in shambles as a result of poor governance. Yari will have a herculean task to convince Nigerians that APC deserves another mandate.
