As summer temperatures soar, the inadequacy of many UK schools to handle heatwaves has become glaringly apparent, with some recording indoor temperatures exceeding 40°C. These educational institutions, often characterized by single glazing and insufficient ventilation, are failing to provide a safe learning environment amid the climate crisis. The issue is compounded by modern designs that emphasize large windows, offering little protection from the relentless sun. Urgent retrofitting is needed to ensure schools can maintain comfortable conditions for students and staff.
