Ashok The Tamil Nadu government has presented its Revised Budget highlights for 2026–27 on Wednesday (August 5, 2026), bringing a series of direct infrastructure, educational, and environmental announcements for Madurai alongside major State-wide welfare initiatives.Leading the direct allocations for the temple city is the establishment of a new special government law college in Madurai, scheduled to open its doors in the 2027–28 academic year with an initial intake of 300 students.Environmental and tourism development also takes center stage, backed by a significant financial push.To tackle ecological concerns, an allocation of ₹25 crore has been made for a feasibility study and the preparation of a Detailed Project Report aimed at controlling pollution in Cauvery, Vaigai, and Tamirabharani Rivers.A total of ₹53 crore has been earmarked for river tourism development across Cauvery, Vaigai, and Tamirabharani River basins to boost regional tourism.Further, the district stands to gain from broader developmental rollouts, including the creation of 10 Olympic special training centers and the deployment of 1,000 mobile geriatric care centers across Tamil Nadu.
