Tambayan Grill & Filipino Store

13.5/20Updated October 26, 2026,first published October 13, 2025Fuel-stop country cafe turned Filipino grill house and grocer. You stop for petrol. The neon sign outside the building abutting the Goulburn Gateway Service Station glows with the words “Tambayan Grill Filipino Asian Store”, and above them “A Taste of Home”. You wander past the television blaring Filipino songs, through the technicolour shelves loaded with chicharon and pandan cupcakes, to the counter, where owner-chef Jonathan Manglinong has scrawled his menu on the whiteboard.Needless to say, the experience at one of the state’s most distinctive roadside restaurants is unlike any other, and that’s before any dishes hit the table. When they do, the promise of the tagline is made flesh with homestyle Filipino fare built for refuelling: chicken inasal glistening with a soy glaze; pork liempo in which the fat of the belly is cut by calamansi. So far so classic, but then here’s the tuna panga – a hunky collar grilled and basted until sweet, sticky, spiced and glorious. Come with an empty tank, leave with a full heart. Best for: A roadside pit-stop to remember, with fresh calamansi fruit on the counter.Good Food reviews are booked anonymously and paid independently.
