Take strict action in sexual assault allegations against R. Veeramani, AIDWA urges T.N. government

The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) has urged the Tamil Nadu government to take strict action in the sexual assault case involving Gem Granites chairman R. Veeramani and conduct an inquiry against police officials who allegedly failed to take appropriate action in the case.The association said reports that minor girls were allegedly sexually assaulted in the POCSO case involving the Chennai-based businessman were shocking and deeply concerning. It said reports suggesting that several other girls may also have been affected made it imperative that all facts in the case be brought to light.According to the association, the police were provided information and evidence, including a video allegedly showing Veeramani sexually assaulting a minor girl on October 6, 2025. A case was registered the next day on October 7.“Despite this, why were further steps not taken with urgency in such a serious POCSO Act case on the ground that the identity of the child could not be established?” the association asked. It also questioned why attempts were allegedly made to close the investigation when the police had in their possession a video purportedly showing the sexual abuse of a child.The association said the police should have acted impartially in cases of sexual violence against children, without being influenced by the social status, financial power, or influence of the accused. It demanded a detailed inquiry into the initial handling of the case by the police, the alleged delay in the investigation, and the alleged negligence.The identities of the affected girls must be protected, it said, adding that they and their families should be provided complete security, legal assistance, medical care, and psychological support. The investigation should also be expanded to identify other children who may have been affected, it said.The Tamil Nadu government should ensure a speedy investigation and initiate stringent legal action against all those found guilty, the association added, stressing that justice must be ensured for the affected children.
