Do you stop for smashed samosas and snacks at Shri Refreshment Bar? Head straight to Chatkazz for Mumbai street food? Make for biryani or dosa or Nepalesedumpling specialists? All are good options, but continue further down Wigram Street, past the grocers selling curry-leaf plants, and you’ll spot Taj Indian Sweets and Restaurant.Opened in 2003, Taj is one of Little India’s originals, with regulars dedicated to the epic, all-vegetarian menu. There’s plenty of chaat, including winning pani puri, and the thalis – northern or southern style – give an entry point to the venue’s curry offer, complete with rice, bread, pickles and pappadums.Don’t leave without grabbing a sweet from the stacked front bar either – unless, that is, you’ve got your heart set on golden, twisted jalebi, fried to order streetside and drowned in sugar syrup from Jaipur Sweets. One street, endless possibilities.Good to know: Dosa Hut is ground zero for dosa, but Taj’s version hits the spot, too.Good Food reviews are booked anonymously and paid independently.
