A graduate of McMaster University, Ryan began his career in public relations before attending Vancouver Film School. There, he built lasting industry connections and optioned a feature film screenplay. Sylvester Stallone remains one of Hollywood's greatest action stars. The actor, now 80 years old, has given audiences an array of action films that have stood the test of time, including many from the 1980s and 1990s. After getting his start with Rocky (1976), the Tulsa King star appeared in films like First Blood (1982), Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), Cobra (1986), Demolition Man (1993), Judge Dredd (1995), and Cop Land (1997). Some of these films have experienced a second life on streaming, and another '90s Stallone classic could be about to follow this same trend. 33 years after it first hit theaters, Cliffhanger is now set to come to Netflix. The Stallone film, which was directed by Renny Harlin, hits the platform in the U.S. on November 1, meaning there isn't long to wait. Stallone's Cliffhanger Is Swinging Its Way To Netflix Next Month Cliffhanger sees Stallone playing Gabe Walker, a mountain rescuer who finds himself tangled up with a group of thieves in the mountainous wilderness as they search for their missing cash. Also starring John Lithgow, Michael Rooker, Janine Turner, and Rex Linn, the film marked Stallone's follow-up to the disastrous Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot (1992). Cliffhanger fared better critically and commercially, sporting a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossing $255 million worldwide. Cliffhanger's impending Netflix release means the film is about to reach a much wider audience. The R-rated action thriller never reached the same heights as entries in the Rocky and Rambo franchises, but it does feature some stunning stunt sequences. Cliffhanger becoming a viewership success on Netflix would bode well for the upcoming remake, which will attempt to reimagine the film's high-wire action for a whole new generation. The Streaming Change Comes At The Perfect Time Set to hit theaters on February 24, 2027, the upcoming Cliffhanger reboot sees Lily James playing the lead role, with a supporting cast that includes Pierce Brosnan, Nell Tiger Free, and Franz Rogowski. The film, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, stars James as Naomi, a mountaineer who narrowly avoids an attack by kidnappers and must use her skill set to rescue her father and sister. The original Cliffhanger releasing on Netflix could give the upcoming remake a bit of a boost, especially as younger audiences may not be familiar with the Stallone film. Even though the 1993 title never became a hit on the level of Rocky or Rambo, the film certainly has its fans, and it sets a high bar for the upcoming reimagining. Release Date May 28, 1993 Runtime 112 Minutes Director Renny Harlin
