Sylvester Stallone Told Trump Hollywood Ambassadorship Was “Impossible” But Was Appointed Anyway: “It Won’t Work”

Nearly two years after Trump appointed him as a “special ambassador” to Hollywood, Sylvester Stallone recently revealed he never agreed to the position. The 3x Oscar nominee recalled telling the twice-impeached POTUS that the ambassadorship was “impossible” and he would have rejected the gig “if they had asked me in the beginning.” “Because Hollywood, I guess it’s like feudal states,” he explained to The Sunday Times. “They have their little kingdoms. You don’t go in and tell six studios how to do things. And Mel Gibson and Jon Voight, we’re kind of do-our-own-thing people. No, it won’t work.” Stallone added, “I said thank you and ciao, because it’s impossible. Hollywood works and it will evolve. It’s corporate and corporate people won’t want to hear me tell them about finance.” Watch on Deadline The Tulsa King star explained that he was blindsided when Trump announced him as an ambassador, along with Mel Gibson and Jon Voight. “Well, it just happened. I was watching TV one night and they go, ‘So Stallone and Mel Gibson and Jon Voight will be …'” recounted Stallone. “And I went, ‘What?’ I said, ‘Excuse me? Really?’ Because if they had asked me in the beginning, I would have said, this is not possible.” Although Stallone was not convinced by the potential of the ambassadorship, Trump said he’s recently met with Voight about instating a federal film and television tax incentive, which would have to clear several hurdles. Meanwhile, Gibson has proposed a co-production agreement between Italy and the US, to serve as a pilot program for partnerships with other countries.
