Koontz and Luke Boyce, the SyFy original show adapts the comic book series of the same name by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton. Premiering in August 2025, Revival follows officer Dana Cypress (Melanie Scrofano) as she attempts to solve a murder case after the dead mysteriously rise from their graves in a rural Wisconsin town. Per Matt's Inside Line (via TVLine) SyFy has opted not to renew Revival for season 2, despite the positive response to season 1. The decision makes The Ark the only remaining SyFy original series, but that show still has yet to be renewed following the conclusion to its season 3 on October 14. Also starring Romy Weltman, David James Elliot, Andy McQueen, Katherine King So, Mark Little, and Stephen Ogg, among others, Revival season 1 was met with generally positive reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the supernatural noir series enjoys a strong 90% critics' score, with the Popcornmeter not far behind at 85%. ScreenRant's own Revival review by Ben Gibbons was also positive, though somewhat lukewarm, at a score of 6 out of 10. For Gibbons, the show effectively incorporates the best elements of the comic series and strikes a delicate tonal balance, particularly in its later episodes. He takes issue, however, with the show's lethargic start, writing: Initially, the pacing and quirky humor of the early episodes betray the quality of the story overall. It's a little too quippy, and the dynamics are not immediately apparent. But this soon changes with developments in the mid-to-later episodes. By the time season 1 is halfway finished, the characters are familiar, fun, and strong anchors I became invested in. By that point, the humor, initially misplaced and misaligned, settles in comfortably. Although Revival was met with a warm reception overall, this ultimately didn't translate into the cable viewership needed to justify additional episodes. All 10 episodes of the show are currently available to watch on Netflix in the U.S., and it's possible that the series has been a bigger success on streaming. Whether higher streaming viewership would be enough to see a season 2 picked up on another platform, however, remains to be seen. Revival's cancellation comes amidst broader changes at SyFy. The channel has drastically scaled back most of its original programming as part of corporate restructuring efforts as linear viewership continues to nosedive. The channel is seemingly shifting away from expensive genre storytelling, making the future of The Ark also dubious. The broader TV landscape continues to experience major changes as audience viewership habits change. Though Revival may have featured some intriguing elements and strong reviews, the show is evidently another casualty of a rapidly evolving industry.
