Syfy's 10-Episode Supernatural Horror Series Still Needs A Season 2

Syfy has produced some incredible sleeper hits that deserve more attention, including a recent supernatural horror series that is in desperate need of a season 2. With the rise in popularity of supernatural horror in general, it makes sense for networks like Syfy to jump on the bandwagon and release longer-format stories in the same space. And while they may well be working on creating more shows that fit this mold, there is one series that debuted back in 2025 and is yet to get an update on season 2, while also not being officially canceled, leaving the series' fate hanging in the balance, kind of like the characters who populate the town of Wausau, Wisconsin. Of course, the series in question is Revival, a stunning 10-episode masterpiece that reveals what happens when the dead join the living after a mysterious event known as Revival Day. The town has mixed feelings, with some people reuniting with loved ones and trying to live peacefully and quietly, while others remain far more suspicious of the newly undead. Revival Deserves A Season 2, And It Could Still Happen The series debuted on Syfy in October 2025, and in the time since season 1 concluded, the studios have been remarkably tight-lipped about the fate of the show. While many people would expect a show that didn't perform to be swiftly canceled, Revival has managed to keep audiences in a trance, and after almost an entire year, hopefully there will be a positive update soon. This is expected to come about because the entire first season of Revival was released on Netflix in the last couple of days, premiering on August 24. If the show proves to be a hit on Netflix, it may well push the executives who hold the show's fate in their hands to finally make a decision and confirm if Revival will return to the small screen in the near future. However, if the show doesn't perform as expected, then it's likely that the series will be retired permanently, despite season 1 ending with a cliffhanger and many questions still hanging in the balance. Fingers crossed Revival can climb back from the brink of death and continue this story for the many people who are desperate to see what happens next. Revival Was An '80s Throwback In The Best Way The landscape of TV and film is vastly different today than in decades gone by. And when examining the evolution of horror, there's an even starker difference. Today, TV is steadily becoming just as prestigious as film, depending on the platform and content, and streaming has made it easier than ever to binge shows and films in the genres that audiences love, with complete freedom to watch whatever, whenever. But in the midst of all this freedom, there has been a craving among some audiences to look back and feed into the nostalgic yearning for an era that has long since been over. Which is why some shows are leaning into this nostalgia bait and creating something that feels like it belongs in a totally different era. But sometimes, this really works. Case in point, Revival draws on elements of 1980s-style horror with what equates to a kind of zombie story. There is tension throughout the series, mysteries to be uncovered, and a thrilling narrative that puts a bunch of local law enforcement to face off against something they have very little understanding of how to handle. All of this combines to create a new, contemporary supernatural horror story that builds on some of the best parts of 1980s storytelling and transcends into something else entirely. Revival is absolutely worth checking out on Netflix if you haven't already, and even if you have, revisiting could lead to a long and healthy future for the show.
