Supreme Is Dropping Its Handsomest Suit in Ages

Supreme has a long history of making great suits, and GQ has an equally long history of writing about them.Every time the brand publishes one of its lookbooks—a grab bag of forthcoming products to be released in weekly drops, a cadence the skate brand pioneered—water-cooler chatter around these parts bends towards the brand’s hardy, reliable basics. Because as much as the label’s bread and butter remains sly, irreverent spins on modern streetwear—punchy fleece zip-ups, slouchy work pants, logo-emblazoned graphic tees—its most satisfying and wearable pieces are the workhorse staples it produces to little fanfare each season.Case in point: the handsome Black Watch suit spotlighted in the brand’s fall-winter 2026 lookbook, the most recent addition to Supreme’s rich archive of capital-T Tailoring. It’s been a couple of seasons since a Supreme suit has been worth commenting on, but this one is notable for a few reasons. For one, it’s awesome. For another, it’s cut with the careless ease of the brand’s baggiest chinos, a welcome change of pace from collections prior, when Supreme’s tailoring skewed slim and narrow, like it never really shook off the ghosts of Ludlows past.Courtesy of SupremeBut the real clincher here is the gorgeous Black Watch wool from Lochcarron, a pedigreed Scottish tartan specialist. Black Watch originated with the 18th-century Scottish infantry regiment of the same name, but it was quickly adopted by a who’s who of menswear greats in the form of suits, coats, and countryside-adjacent waxed canvas jackets. We’d like to think GQ played a small role in its modern-day resurgence, too: When the late, great Style Guy Glenn O’Brien wore a bespoke Black Watch raincoat in this magazine’s pages, the image sparked a craze for the pattern that eventually extended as far as the shelves at J.Crew’s era-defining Liquor Store.Is this suit a sign that, as more excitable corners of the internet might put it, Supreme is “so back”? Not really. It’s a sign that Supreme never left, and the entire discourse over the waxing/waning nature of its influence is a little ridiculous. Our only suggestion? The second you buy it, snip that tag off the sleeve.
