Supermarket’s 39p own-brand baked beans are crowned BETTER than Heinz and hailed ‘excellent all-rounder’ in taste test

Consumer champion Which? asked the panel to rate 12 different varieties, including Heinz, Branston, Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, Aldi, and Tesco. In the test, Aldi and Lidl were tied for the top spot with an overall rating of 77%. The high-rating narrowly edged out the big-brand favourite Heinz despite being more than three times cheaper. Aldi’s Bramwells beans were praised for texture and taste by the majority of testers, who agreed that they were “pleasantly sweet”. A tin of Bramwells beans at the discount store costs just 39p. Lidl also scooped these titles for its budget Newgate beans, which scored similarly well across the board at 40p a tin. Most read in Money Brand leader Heinz came in at second place, with a score of 76%. Costing £1.40, a 415g tin from the brand is over 200% the price of the Aldi and Lidl tins. Comment now
