'Superman' Fan-Favorite Officially Joins 'Top Gun: Maverick' Director's 'Miami Vice' Remake

Image via Paramount Pictures Published Sep 30, 2026, 5:45 PM EDT A cinematic obsessive with the filmic palate of a starving raccoon, Rob London will watch pretty much anything once. With a mind like a steel trap, he's an endless fount of movie and TV trivia, borne from a misspent youth of watching monster movies on TV, perusing the sun-faded goods at the local video rental shop, and staining his fingers with ink from the Video Movie Guide. Areas of interest include science fiction, film noir, horror flicks, '70s disaster pictures, Bond movies, '90s action, giant robots, dinosaurs, super heroes, and the exuberantly schlocky output of Cannon Films. He also enjoys both Star Trek and Star Wars when they're good, and maybe even more when they're bad. As a Canadian, he also has a vested interest in Canadian movies and TV shows, especially the cheesier ones dubbed "Canuxploitation." An expert on Marvel Comics, he has also written for the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and is a member of the Marvel Research Team. He can frequently be found pontificating on comic-book continuity or bemoaning the misfortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs on his Twitter account. The film's already lined up a starry cast, and it's just added one of the breakout stars of last summer's Superman. Universal will release the movie on May 19, 2028. Based on the TV series created by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by Michael Mann, Miami Vice '85 is set in the sun and sin-soaked climes of 1980s Miami. Mismatched vice cops Sonny Crockett (Austin Butler, Elvis) and Ricardo Tubbs (Michael B. Jordan, Creed) are thrown together to clean up the city's underworld. The film is also set to star Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2), Camila Morrone (Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen), Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick), John Leguizamo (The Odyssey), and Andrew Schulz (Tires). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Edi Gathegi has now joined the cast. He'll play a small-time crook with big-time ambitions that soon have him in hot water. Gathegi has previously starred in X-Men: First Class, the Twilight series, and For All Mankind; last year, he stole the show as droll tech genius Mr. Terrific in Superman. He's set to reprise the role in next year's Man of Tomorrow, and is also slated to get his own spin-off series. He'll need to clear his schedule soon; production on Miami Vice: '85 will reportedly begin in November, shooting in both New York and Miami. Miami Vice '85 will debut in theaters on May 19, 2028.
